When she was originally hired by the segregated NACA, she worked in a division called the West Computers. The West Computers were essential to NACA’s success yet they had to use different dining facilities and bathrooms When NACA got incorporated into the newly founded NASA, segregation was banned and the west computers were sent into different divisions of the space program Kathrine Johnson was part of the Space Task Group and became the first woman in her division to receive credit on a research paper. She authored or co authored 26 research papers She has a building named after her, the Katherine G. Johnson Computational Research Facility Hidden figures was released in 2ö16 and highlighted the importance of the West Computers, in particular Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughen, and Mary Jackson and their contribution to the space race.
