Chapter one: Joy Davison I try to walk through the halls as fast as I can. I keep my head down. Just get to Iris. I tell myself. Once I'm with my best friend, nothing will be wrong, everything will be different. When I'm with Iris, everythings perfect. Just a little further...Smash! "I'm so sorry!" I scramble to my feet, my books still clutched to my chest. "It's fine. Are you okay?" I look up at him. His eyes are filled with worry. They are blue, like a beautiful pair of sapphires. He has blonde hair sticking out of a green and white hat on top his head. I flush pink. "I-I'm fine, thanks." I tuck a piece of hair behind my ear. He smiles, and it's beautiful. I feel my face get even redder. "Can I walk you to class-" Before I can even begin to comprehend what he's asked, Iris rushes up to me. "Joy!" She grabs my arm. "The craziest thing just happened! I was walking through the halls and-" I chuckle, and she looks confused. I point to the boy standing in front of me. "Iris." She sticks her hand out. He smiles and shakes it. "Jake." He looks at me. "And Joy?" I nod. "Nice to have a name to go with the face." My face? I feel flushed again. "We gotta get to class." I say, not wanting to go, but if Mr. Dazy catches me late again, I'm getting detention for life. "See you later Joy." He smirks, and we go our different ways. ♩♪♩♬ ♬♩♪♩ That wasn't the last time I saw Jake today. He ended up in my next class with me. After telling Iris what happened, she scooted over, and made him sit next to me. "Is it your first day?" I ask, feeling silly. "I haven't seen you around." "Yep. And so far, it's going pretty good. Everyone's pretty friendly so far. I've met some really nice girls, and joined the book club." My heart swells. "Y-you like reading!?" Great. Now I'm gonna scare him off with my nerdiness. "Yes! Definitely!" I can't breathe! "What's your favourite book? Who's your favourite character? Where did you move from? What street do you live on?" I ask rapidly. He smiles and laughs. I go beet red. "Sorry." I mutter. "No! Don't be, its okay!" He takes a deep breath. "I'd have to say my favourite book is probably The Hunger Games right now. I love Prim Everdeen, because she reminds me of my own sister. I moved from Australia. And I live on Rose Ave now. House 14." I smile shyly. Then it clicks. "14 Rose Ave!? That's right next to my house." He raises his eyebrows. "Perfect! Wanna walk home together." I look at Iris, and she gives me a thumbs up. "Yes!" Mr. Dazy comes in, and begins teaching the lesson, though, I don't really listen. I can't wait to get home now!
Chapter two: Jake Austin "Get out of bed Jakey!" My mum calls and I groan. The last thing I want to do right now is go to school. My parents told me and my sister we were moving last week. I left my best friend, my girlfriend, and all my family for this. Well, now ex-girlfriend. She was angry I didn't tell her sooner that I was leaving. So she dumped me. To be fair, I didn't know until last Sunday, and I told her as soon as I knew. She didn't care for that though, said I was just making excuses. Honestly, it was probably good for me to breakup with her. She was very controlling, but I couldn't see it. "Jake Austin. Get down here right now, you're gonna be late." I stand up, and change into my outfit my sister lied out for me. She wanted us to wear matching outfits today, for good luck. After lots of convincing, I obliged. I throw on my lucky green hat, and rush downstairs, dodging boxes. "Morning Jake!" Hannah jumps onto me, and gives me a hug. "Morning Hans! Where's your lucky outfit?" She looks down at her flower printed dress. "Oh yeah!" She dashes upstairs and I hear a bang. My mom mutters something about her being more careful, but continues making pancakes. "Chocolate pancakes, someones trying to bribe happiness." I say, and give my mother a hug. "Funny. Now grab one, and go to school." I sigh, but leave. ♩♪♩♬ ♬♩♪♩ I walk though the halls. So far no one has even said hi yet. Real nice people. A girl bulldozes over me. "Are you okay?" She looks up at me. Her hair is blonde with a pink streak through her bangs, and front hair. Her eyes are emerald green, and her cheeks are super rosy. We chat for a few minutes, and I can't help the butterflies in my stomach. A girl with olive skin, and long brown hair comes running up towards the girl with pink hair. "Joy! The craziest thing just happened! I was walking through the halls and-" The pink haired girl giggles, and points to me. The brunette turns slowly, and I feel very awkward. "Iris." She sticks her long arm out. "Jake." I shake her hand. "And Joy?" The pink haired girl-Joy, nods. "Nice to have a name to go with the face." She flushes and so do I. "We gotta get to class." I nod, and smirk saying goodbye. The girls turn and rush the same way I'm going. I stay at least ten feet behind them. Last class. ♩♪♩♬ ♬♩♪♩ Joy and I sat together in math. It was awesome not to have to sit alone. And Iris moved over happily to let me join them. We talk about books most the time, then some about Australia, and then, I learn she is my neighbor. When the teacher-Mr Dazy-begins class, I see Joy fidgeting with her fingers. Her leg taps restlessly, and she bends her fingers all different ways. She pulls her hat down, and tries to hide behind her hair so she isn't called on. Me on the other hand. I stick my hand up to answer most questions, which makes some people at the front of the class room glare at me. The final bell couldn't have came later. Joy and I grabbed our bags, and walked home together. "Do you have any siblings? Well, other then your sister?" Joy asks, flushing red as if she's said too much. "Good memory! And no, only Hannah. What about you?" She shakes her head. "I wanted a little sister, but my parents don't have the time to take care of another kid." She sounds so sad. "What movies and shows do you like to watch?" I ask, trying to lighten the mood. Her head perks up. "Right now for movies, I love anything Adam Sandler! And for shows, probably Cobra Kai!" "I love the karate kid movies and Cobra Kai! I was actually planning on binging the last season tonight, wanna come over?" My stomach clenches. Its not like I'm asking her out. Why am I so nervous? "Yes! I'll bring the snacks!" She rushes up the sidewalk and I chase after her. "Candy or chips?" She asks, still running. "Chips definitely!" She smirks. "I'll bring my collection of snacks!" I swear, this girl keeps getting more and more perfect every second. We continue running till we get to our street. "Meet at my place at six?" I ask, she nods. "See you in a bit Joy." "See you in a bit Jake." She mocks, and I laugh. We each run inside, and I get my room ready. Hi Kitty here, if you guys have gotten this far, I wanna say thanks for reading!
