The Umbra's Odyessey: Book 2, Chapter 7: Moon -- Serpent had to keep themselves from laughing at the poor, pitiful Umbra. He was a true mess after the jester had perished. Serpent held in another laugh, turning away from Umbra's sight..just in case. After all, they hadn't enchanted that jester, Fortuna, for nothing. It was very fortunate for Serpent to had been there that day. The day the prince of the dead's foolish friends' had crashed into the island, the island of wasteaways. It was easy to decide which one had to go. Of course, the prince himself couldn't go. It had to be one of his friends. They had both been good contenders, but Umbra had proved to be useful, emotionally. (Serpent had done some research from the island's libary; it was very useful.) Umbra was the most vulnerable of the three. It also helped that when the moon turned red, Umbra could be a very valuable asset. It would happen soon. The jester, Fortuna, however, was jumpy and vulnerable. Serpent practically didn't have to do anything other then lock gazes with the jester to bend the jester's will to his. Serpent led Umbra into the village. Most of the unfinished kits were already asleep. He benconed for Umbra to follow, hiding the slim smile that grew on his face. It had worked perfectly. The jester did what Serpent had enforced onto him, and the moon vessel, Umbra, was in complete shambles. The prince of the dead, who they called Crypt, had faithfully fufiled the promise of returning to the island. Serpent now had what he had been waiting for. The prince of the dead, in his grasp, and the perfect vessel for the Red moon. Umbra would be his soon. With Umbra on his side, the prince of the dead would fall into his trap, his trap that had been waiting a long time to spring. "What's so funny?" Serpent's thoughts were broken by a voice. It was high and shrill. The knight in shining armor themselves. Phantasm. "I was enjoying the sky. It's rare to see it like this." Serpent's fib rolled right off his forked tounge. He hadn't though the Prince would meet another kit, surely, not one that they would have stick around. It was a flaw in Serpent's plan. Phantasm didn't respond. This kit annoyed Serpent greatly. He had spent years figuring out kit behiovors from the unfinished and the finished, but this kit doesn't act like the rest. They act like, for lack of better word, an anomaly. Normal kits would have followed up, but not this kit. He knew he had to be wary. He didn't even know what this knight could do yet. He could check the engraved, rocks with kit names, abilities, and some form of description. They had weird bits, almost like numbers, engraved in them, too. They filled an entire part of the island. Serpent didn't really care how the came to be, as long as he could use them. "Umbra," Serpent looked behind them. Umbra was still there. Still lost. "Why don't you go with Phantasm? I'm sure you'd like the clear the air between you." As much as Serpent would have liked to see the knight's reaction, they had a type of helmet, silver, of course, gaurding their face. Serpent didn't even know what they looked like under the helmet. Surely they must remove it? Umbra shifted behind Serpent. His expression, on the other hand, was plain to see. Lost. Unsure. Hurt. Pain. Serpent could see he had added a few more emotions after their conversation: Anger. Resentment. Rage. Umbra looked straight at Phantasm. "No." Phantasm turned their head towards Umbra. Umbra's white eyes hardend. "I don't think I need to." Umbra turned their back on Phantasm, ready to leave. "I think someone else needs to." Umbra then waited a few seconds. Phantasm lifted their helmet off, reaveling a face underneath. Their pure white eyes locked with Serpents'. "Why don't you come with me, Serpent?" Serpent could see they were a she. White pale skin, and they wore a grey hood over the rest of their head. Phantasm calling Serpent, well, Serpent was strange. Serpent didn't recall telling this knight his name. "I don't think I need to, Phantasm." It was her mistake for locking eyes with him. Phantasm could also prove to be an asset, in time. Only if he could control her. "No, I think you do, SERPENT." Phantasm countered. Serpent fliched, and took a step back. What? "What's wrong, snake boy?" she pressed, stepping forward, eyes still locked with his. Serpent tore his gaze away. Why wasn't it working? She should have said no. Phantasm's hand went to her sword, which was currently seathed in a scabbard they wore around their waist. Serpent took a step back. "Let's not be hasty." Serpent slithered. "We have a rule here. Do no physical harm to another kit." Phantasm lifted her hand off the sword's hilt. "Physically.." mused Phantasm. "Huh." Serpent inched backward, bumping into Umbra. When Serpent turned to look at Umbra, who looked confused. Serpent took another look at Phantasm. He then turned and walked away, ignoring an uneasy feeling that was growing in his stomach.
