Hi! I’ve been inactive for a while so here are some updates. I’m working on the first chapter of MI so I hope to get it done by the end of this month. 3/15/25 - I went to a district championship of speech and debate. So get ready for a long paragraph of how rigged and biased the competition felt. I got to the place at 8:00. There are two categories speech and debate. Everyone does speech and if you memorized your speech and have good grades you can do debate. I got in the debate team with my best friend as my partner/teammate. There were 5 teams, I won’t share the names for privacy reasons. The other team of another school quit so, one of our teams debated twice. So here is when things started to feel good! At 9:00 it was the first round of the debate teams and the semifinals of the speeches. Out topic was are video games useful or harmful? We were on the NEG side so, video games are harmful. We got into our room (this was done at a school btw) and waited for the other team to come in. While we were waiting, we prepared how to do our contention/reasons. We got the topics a week in advance so we already had reasons. When the other team came in they got some time to prep. The AFF side goes first, so the opposing team went first. They were really quiet, like we were only a couple feet away and we barely heard them, they sat down the whole time, and their reasons sometimes connected with their last reasons. So they were quiet and disorganized. When we spoke, we stood up gave reasons about the physical, mental, emotional, and social problems that can happen if you play to many video games. We gave examples, statistics, and facts. We came out of the room confident we would make it to round 2 of debate. So, we waited for them to post the results for the first round of debate. When we went to see the results it said this. Round two of debate. Team from our school VS Team from our school. And another pair that said Team from another school vs team we went up against. Me and my friend were absolutely shocked. We were screaming in disbelief. Like they won? HOWWW? I’m still so surprised. There were so many other AFF teams that could’ve taken their place. What we thought happened was that when we were preparing for our next debate, a judge was next to us. We thought they might’ve overheard us and decided no. But, that didn’t seem likely. We also thought they could’ve mixed us up. That seemed more reasonable— oh wait! We stated our names on the beginning of the speech, we were on the board for first round of debate in room 107. Whatever, we just let it go. When we were at the award ceremony 1:00 pm we didn’t get to go up on stage because we were eliminated during round 1. Guess who got first place in debate? The team we went up against. Me and my best friend were SCREAMING. How is this possible? They were so bad! And there wasn’t even a round 3! There was just 2 first places from round two? I don’t get it! The whole thing felt disorganized. It was fun, but felt sort of unfair. I got a medal tho! :D press the cat so you can see it. I was a finalist in my district :) That’s my main update. Now that the district champs is over I’m going to state championship!!! But for now I’ll be less busy so, thanks for reading my vent/rant/updates!
