Serenity: Well this is just great. That WEREWOLF is in my house. I feel sick. Whenever I felt sick before, Mother would call the doctor and console me with cuddles and fresh pastries. Daddy would rant about how the health system is spiralling out of control and buy me expensive gifts for coping with my suffering so bravely. Such a shame Mother and Daddy aren't at Hogwarts. At least she won't be in my dorm! I asked Mother to make sure I was promised the best bed and a private suite if possible. In fact, I shall ask Professor McGonagall right this minute! "No? What do you mean, no?!" "Miss Lukas, the dormitories are sorted by the headmistress, not the parent," McGonagall sounds exasperated, as though she deals with this every year. "Every Hogwarts student has the same living conditions and there are no private suites available at Hogwarts. Now please run along, I have better things to do than listening to the whines of first years." Whines? WHINES? I DON'T WHINE!! AM I WHINING RIGHT NOW?!? I sit down at my house table with a huff, Natasha joining me with a squeal. "AHHHHH, WE'RE BOTH IN THE SAME HOUSE!!! IT'S FATE!! AND WE HAVE OUR ROOM ASSIGNMENTS!! I HAVE YOURS HERE!!" Natasha practically bounces as she hands me a slip of parchment saying which dorm I'm in. Dorm 22: Serenity Aubriana Lukas Natasha Jubia Joviola Mei Huang Ling Maria Helen Finnegan "Yes!! Yes, yes, yes!!" I squeal, in a Natasha-like way. I look at Mei and Natasha, and the girl Maria Finnegan, who says shyly, "I'm Maria. Me dad was Seamus Finnegan, y'know, Harry Potter's friend." She has a heavy Irish accent. "I lived in Ireland but we moved to London recently." Natasha turned stiff beside me. "Um, that's cool..." her usual bubbly voice is grave, unlike her. "Serenity, have you seen the final name on the list?" I stare at the list and gasp. It's HER. Jamie Anderson Silvereye. I walk up to my house in shock, feeling numb. I haven't seen her yet, but no doubt I will soon. I open my dorm door. Normal beds in normal blue covers. Disgusting. "The common room was really nice, weren't it?" Maria says. "All shiny with loads o'... things. Hey, who're you?" She's sitting on a bed, playing with the strand of unicorn hair threaded through her short black mane. "I'm Jamie Silvereye," she says in a whispered voice. "OH. OH NO OH NO..." Natasha squeaks. "T-the werewolf!! OH GOSH I-" Maria looks confused and slightly bewildered. Natasha face is wrought with fear, while Mei looks slightly amused. Jamie raises one eyebrow. "Nice to see you remember me," "You're a werewolf? Cool," Maria jumps on a bed, not seeming the slightest bit bothered that there's a CREATURE in the room. She tacks up a poster of the Irish Quidditch team - Troy, Mullet and Moran are now flying up over her four-poster covers. Natasha squeaks and picks the bed furthest away from her. Which leaves me with the bed next to the werewolf. My day keeps getting worse and worse!! "My darling dearest Mother and Daddy..." I scrawl on a piece of parchment in my sparkly pink ink. "To Mum and Dad..." Jamie scribbles, not bothering to be quiet. The words burst forth in a flurry of words. "I've had my first evening at Hogwarts, and it's been HORRIBLE!!" "You... know what... you said... about me keeping... my condition... a secret..." Jamie mutters. "Well... guess... what..." "I've not been promised a private suite AND I have to share a room of five girls!" I blot the rosy ink in my fury. "Some... Seer... girl... told... everyone... in the... school..." Jamie glances over at me and glares. "Isn't... that... great..." "But worst of all... there's a werewolf in the school! A werewolf! Isn't it horrible?" "And... she's... a right... pain... too..." Jamie mutters. "She... is... pinker... than a... Pygmy Puff... and twice... as... whiney..." "And she's sharing my room! Mother, please write to Professor McGonagall and tell her this must change IMMEDIATELY." "Send... Noah... my... love..." "Love, your favourite daughter and darlingest child..." "Love..." "Serenity," "Jamie," Silence as we fold our letters. Then I quickly add a P.S. "P.S: Please send a regular supply of sweets and chocolate to the school. I would also like to receive a pet owl - the school ones are DREADFUL." "Who's Noah?" I hear Maria ask Jamie. "Your brother?" "My younger brother, yeah," Jamie smiles weakly. "He'll be coming to Hogwarts in our third year," "Unfortunately, I have no time for your tragic life story, so we might as well go to sleep," I fake-yawn, pulling on my fluffy white pyjamas. Jamie rolls her eyes and pulls from her suitcase a strange tiny swaying plant. "Oh, by all means, go water your pretty Flutterby bush," I smirk. "It's actually a cross-breed of Mimbulus Mimbletonia and Venomous Tentacula, but thanks for asking," Jamie pours a few drops of an acid-green potion onto the plant, which fizzled out on the dark green leaves. A small amount of Stinksap burst from a root, and Jamie petted the plant fondly. (+)
(+) I jump into the covers and watch my fellow "roommates". Natasha is busy arranging dozens of fluffy soft toys by colour, petting each soft head goodnight. Maria is attaching a small locket around her neck. Mei is lighting incense and blowing the smoke around the room, making me cough. Night falls, and I can only hear Natasha giggling in her sleep and Maria's soft snores. And then I look at Jamie. A strange feeling flows through my veins like my blood is made of fire. And I know what it is. Loathing. Unadulterated loathing. That morning a gorgeous owl flies down to deliver a letter from Mother. I smirk, happy that I will not have to live with that werewolf anymore. I open the letter with trembling hands. My darling dearest Serenity, Oh, darling, how horrible this must be! A werewolf, indeed! I smirk and continue reading. However, there is nothing I can do. This is up to the Headmistress to decide about. I'm terribly sorry, dear. My hands are shaking from fury now. Here is the owl you requested, with your assorted sweets you asked for! Love, Mother and Daddy. "Oh, did you not get the private suite after all?" Jamie's voice drips in mock sympathy. "How sad." I screw up the letter in my hand and toss it behind my back, watching it land on the head of a fifth-year. "Ooh, are you in a temper?" Jamie smirks. I stand up and storm out of the hall. "Should I bow, or will a curtsy suffice?!" Jamie calls after me. My life is o v e r. Everyone hates me and I'm completely alone in the world. This is disgusting. So now, I'm looking out for me. And only me.
