the professors cat-chapter twelve Freya jammed in the battery and switched on the machine, following the instructions to the best of her memory, hoping it worked. the machine wired to life, the pendulum swirling in a chugga-pucka-doopa-doopa noise. lights flared on, and the once-cat bounded toward the glow. it Settled itself down, entranced by the lights. mayhem slide down the creatures face, but it didn't seem to notice. all that mattered was the lights. the glowing light was calling, it seemed. it wanted her to come. she wanted to join it. she had the vaguest sensation of falling, except her paws never left the ground. shrinking, but her ears still brushed the ceiling. like the flickers of the lights, memories surfaced, then blinked away before she could look at them properly. were was she? she was a kitten. she was small and afraid, trapped in a body to big for her small, scared soul. the world was cold. the lights were warm. she fell a sensation of warmth, a sound that reminded her of her mother. a purr. the lights wanted her. the lights welcomed her. and so she joined them.
