~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Chap 13~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I woke up to a day like no other. I'm 16 right now, so I should be looking for colleges and other things your normal junior should have been doing. But I'm far from normal. I looked around my cabin and almost freaked out by seeing 2 empty beds. Wait- I forgot Carmen went to Camp Jupiter. Liz (She lets us call her that now) was out of bed, probably doing some type of exercise on the back of those protein bottles. I looked to my left and saw Sydney snoring softly, the blanket covering her head. I got up, brushed my teeth and hair, took a shower, and changed into a CBH t-shirt and a pair of denim shorts. I walked back into my cabin and saw Sydney still sleeping, so I shook her. "Mmmf." She mumbled and shoved a pillow in my face. Cruel, right? I decided to leave her and walked to the stables. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I came inside to the scent of fresh hay and, well, pegasus. I walked over to one of the stalls, where my pegasus, Star, was standing. She was Blackjack's mate and next to them was Blizzard, Syd's stallion. Blizzard was a sweet pegasus to Syd and me, but to others, he would probably bite your hand and use the "Your fingers look like carrots" excuse. Star walked up to me and whinnied. "Hi sweetie, got food for me?" "No, girl, sorry." I scratched her ears. "And none for you too, Blackjack. "It was worth trying." He whinnied and trotted back to his hay. I heard a soft knock and turned. Jake stood at the door. After the dance in 9th grade, we decided we would be together. I walked up to him and gave him a quick kiss. "Hi Sparky!" I hugged him. "Hey Brook." He laughed and pulled me closer. "You sleep well?" I asked. "Not well. About 3 hours of sleep." He replied a smile tugging at his mouth. "Now I have a terrible headache." He said, rubbing his temples. I placed a hand on his forehead and let my power surge through me. My hand glowed and faded. "Better?" I asked. "Much." He gave me a kiss on the cheek then said, "Imma try to wake up Syd." "Don't kill you self, and mind you, she WILL." He laughed. I fed the and talked to the horses, feeling Star was hiding something from me, then I felt someone hugging my waist. I turned. Izzy was standing behind me and laughing. "Hey Izzy! How are you?" I said and hugged her back. Then a girl came up to the stalls, panting. Carmen gave me a grin. "Hey Brook." "Car!" I hugged her. "I missed you! I thought you were at Camp J?" That's our shortcut for Camp Jupiter. "Yeah well, its Izzy's birthday and she wanted to come here." She ruffed Izzy's hair. "Well, I'm glad you came anyways." "Soo, how's it going between you and Jake?" She asked teasingly. I rolled my eyes and laughed. "It's going good so far, but let's not jinx it. Come on you 2, we'll be late for breakfast." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's the end of the day and I'm exhausted. I've been teaching the younger legacies AND today was my day in the kitchen. I walk over to the campfire and sit next to Sydney. "Hey Brook!" She puts an arm over me and I put mine over her. "Hay is for horses." I say, grinning goofily at her. Chiron walks up to the fire, limping. He's old but he came back after our parents went missing. He's been like a second dad to us. "Quiet down children." He gave us an tired smile. "I hope you have fun this year at camp. Please, I beg you, don't get eaten or killed or whatnot, and have fun!" He waved and trotted off to his cabin. Kids flew for the s'mores table, laughing and chatting and poking each other with sticks. I raised my hand and a marshmellow, cracker, and piece of chocolate flew toward me. Syd grinned and lifted her hand, creating a small layer of flames. "I still think it's unfair that you guys can use fire." Liz said, coming up behind us. Syd snatched the marsh mellow and held it up until it was golden. She smooshed the poor thing into the crackers. "Want half?" She asked me. "No thanks, the marsh mellow's to soft." I said, jokingly gagging. Syd rolled her eyes, and they seemed to darken, like she wanted to kill me. I got up and walked over to the dock, my favorite evening place. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
