⠀⠀⠀The Injection Protocol | Short Story »» Word count ~ 529 words »» Time ~ One week »» Reading time ~ 3-5 minutes !WARNING! this short story contains lots of fighting and d3ath, read at you own risk! The door exploded, collapsing in on itself. Soot filled up the corridor, momentarily impairing the guards vision. Long enough for Odyssa to enter unseen. She was dressed head to toe in black, which made her blue eyes more striking than their usual grey. Her outfit was similar to the guards in the building, but hers was slim and made of flexible fabric that was easy to move in. Her blonde hair was tied up in a ponytail/braid, and a determined look on her face. She reached up and grabbed one of the guards' burly arms and pulled down. The guard, being unstable because of the lack of vision he had, was taken off guard and fell, meeting Odyssa’s foot at the bottom. She swung and her foot collided with his forehead, knocking him out. The sound echoed through the blank white walls in the corridor. The building was white from the top to the bottom. The whole structure seemed to be made out of corridors and rooms with no colour or personality. There were blue lights on the ceiling, reflecting off the walls and illuminating the hall like a lighthouse illuminates the ocean, giving boats a sense of direction. “Hey! You!” Another guard, a head taller than the other already 6”9 guard. He started towards her at surprising speed for a guy as big as him. His arms looked like they were made of iron, and could easily knock Odyssa out. But she wasn't afraid. She charged at the man. Right at the last second, as he reached out to grab her, she swerved to the right, then before he could react, she kicked him in the groin. He roared in pain, surprised by the sudden attack. He bent down, just enough for Odyssa to reach. She wasted no time and kneed him in the head. She was surprisingly strong for someone her age, only seventeen. But she was strong enough for that blow to make him unconscious. She grabbed a knife from her pocket and cut off the string connected to his security pass. She then raced towards the set of double doors at the end of the hallway. Scanning the pass, she bolted through, right past two more guards, both also covered in black from head to toe. They turned around, just in time to meet Odyssa’s fists. One doubled over, earning her a clear shot at his hip and head, which she then kicked. But the other grabbed her by the waist and spun her away from him. Before she could make a move, he threw her into the wall. Hard. She fell back from the impact, landing on her. She stifled a groan as she tried to stand up. But he wasn’t done with her yet. He punched her in the guts, making her gasp. She quickly ducked, just avoiding another collision with his fist, then swiftly stood up and hit him from his chin, making him double over backwards. Unfortunately, he didn't fall, but it was enough to give Odyssa a chance to do a roundhouse kick into the side of his head. The alarms started to blare. That was not a good sign. If they knew she was there, they might decide to speed up the injection. If that happened, she wouldn't be able to save him. Part 2 coming soon!
