click for next what is your favourite livery? the EMD SD9 was a diesel electric locomotive prodiced by Electro Motive Division of General Motors. It was produced from January 1954 to June 1959. A total of 515 SD9 locomotives were produced at EMD's LaGrange plant in LaGrange Illinois. Several class 1 rairoads bought the SD9, including: Union Pacific, Southern Pacific, Duluth Missabe & Iron Range, Bessemer & Lake Erie, Great Northern, Chicago Burlington & Quincy, Chicage & Northwestern, and Rio Grande. Many SD9's are still working on shortlines, and a few are preserved in museums across the USA. Similar locomotives to the EMD SD9 are its predacessor, the EMD SD7, and its successor, the EMD SD24.
