Beep, beep, beep! Beep, beep, beep! Beep, beep, beep! B- click. As he turned off his alarm clock, he stretched with a large smile on his face. This was the day he had been waiting so long for; the day fantasy became reality. He had been dreaming of this day for ages! In his eyes, it had been too long. Since the project had first began, it was a few decades ago. He had been hired a few years before the project had been even planned. If this went right, he and the company would be the most famous people in history. Maybe even more famous than who had created the first spaceship. Only if today went right. They hadn't had the time to test it, nor did they know where to set it too. Ah, well, surely it won't cause any problems! As he sat on the side of the bed, he stretched a bit more. Getting up, he went to his closet to get ready. He got into his work clothes which consisted of a white lab coat, a white shirt, black pants, white socks and black shoes, and grabbed his glasses after. He had always known their dress code was rather.. ridiculous, but it never bothered him. His wife was already up and cooking, the smell of fresh eggs filling the air. He checked the clock as he headed to the bathroom, 7:45 A.M. He had to be there by 9:00 A.M. He had prepared his speech last night, thank God. There was no way he could do his speech off the top of his head! ..speech.. speech. “OH SHOOT!” He quickly shouted, he had forgotten to print out his speech! Sure, he had over an hour, but no mistakes could be made on a day like this! A female voice called out throughout the house. “Daniel, the kids are awake! Don't be swearing around them!” Daniel had called back to the voice. “Apologies, Dear! Just stressed, that's all!” “You still have over an hour, come and eat! Your eggs will be cold!” Right, he still had time.. something to eat would be nice. Before anything, he walked over to his bed, and opened his laptop that was on the lampside. As soon as he opened it, his speech was right there, ready to go. He pressed the print option and closed the laptop. Afterwards, he walked over to the kitchen, greeted by the warm, fuzzy smile his wife gave him. She had light, brown hair, [REDACTED], and she just seemed overall like a nice person. Two kids were sitting down in chairs, already eating their eggs. Both of them were little girls, one being twelve while the other ten. They both seemed rather excited, quietly giggling to themselves while whispering to each other. Seeing them so happy made him happy as well. He was thankful that the company allowed his family to be at the front so that they could see their father do something that could completely change life as they knew it! The little girls were always told their father did very important work, but now they could actually see what he did! That made him the most excited, yet nervous. He sat down at the table, grabbing the fork and cutting up his egg before eating. After he finished his piece, he looked at the two girls. “So? Are you two excited?” The two girls quickly nodded, both of them talking about how they were excited to see their daddy on tv, but it was hard to hear them since they were talking over each other.. he gave a small chuckle. He loved them; his family. He would give anything in the world to keep this moment forever. He was grateful to have such an amazing life. His wife poured him out a glass of milk before sitting down herself. They chatted and talked amongst themselves about how they were all excited. The two little ones were the most excited. “I think Daddy made a unicorn that can grant anyone candy!” “Well I think Daddy made a rainbow you can slide on!” Daniel chipped in between the two. “Well, Daddy thinks he made something that can make both of those things happen.” He chuckled and smiled at the two. The girls immediately lit up with joy and glee, practically bouncing in their seats. “REALLY?!” “Well maybe, but we have to see if it works first.” Mrs. T chimed in, seeming a bit worried as to what her husband had said. “What if it doesn't?” Daniel seemed a little worried, he hadn’t thought about that. “If it doesn't work.. I'm sure I'll figure it out.” He put his hand onto hers, giving her a reassuring smile. “Thank you for breakfast Dear, but I better be going. I'm sure I have to go help prepare.” “Did you print your script already?” “I did, don't worry. Just gotta grab it and I'll be leaving. I'll see you in a while.” He got up, giving her a kiss on the cheek before ruffing up both of the girls' hair. “I'll see you two soon! Be good for Mommy, okay?” “Alright!” “We will!”
(pt 2) He went to his main workspace, grabbing his printed out script before going out the door and getting into his car, driving away. The traffic was heavy, as expected. People were coming all over the world to see this, the first ever portal to a new reality. This had only ever been seen in movies and heard in stories, but today was the day it turned real. Well, at least he hoped. Even if it didn't work, it wouldn't be the end of the world. It would most likely be a small technical issue anyway. After a good hour of traffic, he finally made it. There was a huge stage set up already with a closed curtain. He assumed that it was already being set up; he kinda regrets not being here earlier. As he parked in a spot specifically for company personnel only, he got out, looking at the large crowd that had already been formed. Hundreds, no, THOUSANDS of people already waiting. Alright, no time to waste. Hurriedly, he rushed over to the stage before going around to the back. There were at least 30 or more people getting everything prepared. A man looking down at a clipboard looked up for a moment, spotting Daniel. “Great, you’re here! Schedules changed, we’re doing it an hour early.” He looked stunned and surprised. So they only had 25 more minutes before he had to go out? He already felt nervous, his grip tightening onto the paper slightly. The man with the clipboard put one of his hands onto his shoulder, giving him a sign of reassurance. “Don’t worry, you’ll do great. There’s a lot of people out there, sure, but they are just as nervous as you for this.” Daniel gave the man a soft smile. “Thanks..” “Of course, you are the top of the top after all! It’s crazy how you ranked so high!” “Well, it does help to know your stuff.” Daniel chuckled at his own words. “Welp, better go prepare my speech. Thanks for the heads up too, I need to tell my family.” “Of course, big man! Talk to ‘ya later!” He turned around and walked off, regrouping with a few other workers. Daniel grabbed his phone from his pocket before calling his wife, letting her know that they were starting an hour early. She sounded surprised, but when she heard that it simply was because of the amount of people that had already arrived, she seemed WAY more worried now. She told him she would be there right away. “Be careful, I’ll go ahead and let them know you’re on the way. They will come and escort you to the front, towards the stage. Love you, bye bye.” He hung up, going to one of the security guards and letting them know of the situation. They nodded and began walking towards the parking lot. He sighed, looking back down at his speech and deciding to recite it. Five more minutes. Five more minutes until everything was prepared. Five more minutes until everything changed. Did he really want to do this? What if something happened? What if everything went wrong? He was pacing back and forth, questions filling his mind. So many people out there, wanting to see this new invention that could change the world forever. “Four minutes until you’re on, Dan! We already got everything set up!” A voice shouted out to him. Something told him to not do this, that something was going to go wrong. He didn’t know what, but.. Maybe it was just his nerves getting to him. Yet, he just couldn’t shake off the feeling.. All of the stress from the people waiting, all of the fear and paranoia of something going wrong.. The build up of anxiety was overwhelming. He shook his head, clearing his thoughts. Nothing was going to go wrong! They had safety measures in place in case anything went wrong! So even if something did go wrong, they had plans.. Everything would be fine. They would be safe and fine… “FINAL MINUTE PEOPLE! GET IN YOUR PLACES!” He jumped, was all that time really four minutes?!
