The backstory is how there was in reality just Sri Lanka fighting alone in the civil war, since most Sri Lankans felt betrayed knowing the Indian government supported the organization they were fighting against and switched sides, the Indian troops sent were not at all acquainted with fighting in jungles and were easily defeated, and the only country actually supportive, Pakistan, couldn't really do much.
