------- A T N I G H T ------- A game for 3-10 players. Test your lie-detecting skills and try to spot the liar in the group! If you are the thief, you have to convincingly say "I am not a thief," and then steal from your friend! A game of backstabbing, deceiving, and betrayal when you find out who the thief is! But it's okay, because the next time you play, you might be the thief instead! ---- S T O R Y ---- Once upon a time, there was a small village next to a river. The people who dwelt there lived calm, simple lives. But before long there was something that disturbed the peace. People started to notice their precious belongings and their gold going missing over the night. The village soon discovered that there was a thief who was stealing from them. What's worse is that the thief was one of the villagers! Afraid, they asked the police for help, but, not long after, they realized that they must initiate their own investigation, and find out for themselves who the thief is. The villagers turned on each other. Friends were torn apart. Brothers were not talking to each other. The village was in turmoil. No one could be trusted. ---- R U L E S ---- The aim of this game is to correctly guess who the thief is. If you guess wrong, you may cause the whole village to lose! If you are the thief, you win by not getting caught by the villagers. You have to be a good liar, or else you'll lose! Turn your volume up! SET UP The game will tell everyone to close their eyes. Then it will address everyone individually, starting with Player 1. You will be given a card. On the other side of it, it will tell you if you are the thief, or just a villager. Then it moves on to the next player, and they get a card, and so on until all of the players know what they are. There is only one thief per game. ROUND STAGES Every round is made up of three stages. 1) Converse 2) Vote 3) Night First you converse. This is the bulk of the round. Here you have to try to find who the thief is or strategize about how to find the thief. Just remember that no one (except the thief) knows who the thief is. After the time runs out, everyone has to close their eyes. Then the voting begins. Each player opens their eyes, one at a time, and votes for who they think is the thief. If you want to, you can click the "Extra Vote!" token before you vote, making your vote count twice. After everyone votes, the police vote, but instead of voting for who they think is the thief, they vote for who they think isn't the thief. Basically they take a vote away from someone. After that, whoever gets the most votes gets eliminated. If the thief gets eliminated, the village wins. If it's a tie, nobody gets eliminated. Then there is a 1/3 of a chance that the police will help. That means if you roll a 6 sided die you would need a 5 or higher. When the police help, that means they add someone back to the game! When someone gets added back to the game, everyone knows they are not a thief, so you can't vote for them, but they can vote for who they think in the thief, and join in on the fun again! If you're lucky, you might get added back to the game as soon as you get voted out! Then comes the night. At night, the thief gets to steal from someone. When the thief choses to steal, there is 1/3 of a chance that that person will be eliminated. That means that if you rolled a 6-sided die, if you rolled a 5 or higher that person would be eliminated. This process repeats, and the game continues like this. EXTRA VOTE TOKENS Everyone except the thief gets an "Extra Vote!" token at the beginning of the game. When it is your turn to vote, you can use a token to give an extra vote to the player you are voting for. After you are done voting there is a 1/5 of a chance that you will get another token. That means that if you rolled a 10-sided die, you would need a 9 or higher to get another token. Even the thief can earn tokens during the game. WINNING If you are a villager, you win by eliminating the thief. If you are the thief, you win by not getting eliminated. TIPS Only use the "Extra Vote!" token if you are sure about who you are voting for. If you are the thief, though, it is a good idea to use a token whenever you can. During the night, try to move around a lot so when the game addresses the thief nobody can tell who the thief is if everybody's moving around. The best way to learn this game is just to play it! The game walks you through everything, so you don't have to worry about breaking any rules, unless you open your eyes when you're not supposed to. ---- C R E D I T S ---- INSPIRATION for their project Murderer! that initially inspired me to create this.
