The singularity has an unknown number of phases. Currently, there are two phases discovered. The first phase is the standard form you are familiar with. The second phase you see here, is known as the "breaking point." No one knows what happens after this phase, even if there is one (foreshadowing). This was discovered after the reactor went to a pre-meltdown phase but was terminated due to quick thinking.
