HOW IS THIS BOOK SO (D)UCKING GOOD [!] oopie poopie this has graphic content!! be careful past this point!! [!] (SPOILERS AHEAD! IF YOU WANT TO READ THE BOOK FOR YOURSELF, DO NOT PROCEED!) erhm oopsie uh,,,, this book is called Hunt for the Bamboo Rat starring Zenji Watanabe, an American Japanese (Nisei) and he becomes a spy in Malina, Philippines at age 17 He goes there and is undercover as a person from America looking for work and ‘works’ in a warehouse, but secretly is spying on the Japanese embassy/businessmen because of his proficiency in speaking English + Japanese. He goes by the name Bamboo Rat (I heard those things live underground (reference)) But oopsie Pearl Harbor got bombed And now he’s stuck in a Japanese captive camp Luckily his colonel gets him out :) and it all goes downhill when the Japanese push back and it’s poopy and he gets trapped in a prison for like… two years, and he gets tortured and refusal for medical help, causing infection and burn marks (they tied him up with rope in a noose and burned him with cigarette embers) and then tried to drown him by shoving a hose into his mouth Anyways he holds out and they don’t expect him to be the spy anymore, so he goes to be a houseboy until he’s 21 and finally gets free after an escape I’m not willing to explain And then he gets lost in the jungle for months but, but American soldiers find him and it’s September after the war what??? He can drink now?? And uh he goes home The end “Does the name Bamboo Rat mean anything to you?” “I was the Bamboo Rat.” …ᘛ⁐̤ᕐᐷ /|/ \| | /\|^ ʜᴇ’s ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴡᴀʟʟs. ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴇᴀʀᴛʜ. ʜᴇ ᴄᴀɴ ʜᴇᴀʀ ᴜs ɴᴏᴡ. sʟᴏᴡʟʏ, ɴɪʙʙʟɪɴɢ ᴀᴡᴀʏ ᴏᴜʀ ʀᴏᴏᴛs. ᴛɪʟʟ ᴛʜᴇʀᴇ’s ɴᴏᴛʜɪɴɢ ʟᴇғᴛ.
The bookmark was made by me. Also enjoy some quality content of my fingers and the nail polish I need to fix soon Thank you, Graham Salisbury, for writing Hunt for the Bamboo Rat, and similar stories such as Eyes of the Emperor, House of the Red Fish, and Under The Blood Red Sun. If you want to read it, I highly recommend for people who are interested in Imperial Japanese history and a (realistic fiction) perspective on WW2, based off of Richard Sakakida’s military experience in the Philippines. It is an absolute masterpiece, and you don’t have to read any books before it. For the others mentioned above (EotE, HoftRF, UtBRS) you can read in any order, but you need to start from Under the Blood Red Sun, since it mostly stems out from there and has major connections to the other books.
