When you die, you expect to see the gates of heaven or perhaps spirits that will help reincarnate you but in fact, I saw nothing. A voice ringed through my ears, or maybe simply my mind. "Planet Earth is full of species Human. Estimated wait time: >1000 years. Would you like to switch species and/or planet?" Somehow, in death, I don't have beliefs or opinions or pesky /attachments/. I know the most reasonable decision to make in this scenario and so I take it without further regret. "Please move me to the planet with the lowest wait time." I say, my voice flowing out strange and beautiful and /weird/. A humming noise emerged and then dissipated just as fast, bringing with it the image of a pale planet, the atmosphere flowing pale blue and lavender. "Planet Vesmir is full of species Valkyrie. Estimated wait time: 0 years. Your current species is incomparable with this planet. Switch to native species?" "Yes." I answer calmly. "Species updated. Rebirth?" "Yes." I repeat. Somehow I instinctively know what to do, and my arms reach up as my face turns to the heavens. A beautiful feeling sweeps through me, one that is utterly indescribable in its beauty. And I was new. Across the galaxy from where one had died and not even been mourned, a new life came into the world. 19 years later... "LURA!" I groan, putting down my open scroll. "What is it sister?" I ask, not unkindly but a little irritated as I slip out of my room. My sister Terra was pacing in the hall. "Get your pretty little self over here." she orders, and I laugh, recognizing her tone. "Which one of your crushes recognized your existence this time?" I asked, amused. "Brisa," Terra said, swooning and holding out a letter to me. I scanned it. It was mostly normal, just a friendly letter checking in and making some plans, but she had signed her name, 'with much love, Brisa'. I liked her already. I hoped she wasn't leading Terra on. I gave the note back to my sister and dropped a kiss on her cheek. "Love you baby sis." "Love you too." she said offhandedly as she furiously penned a return letter. I love you. Three simple words that mean so much. I would never tell anyone what went wrong in that strange in-between realm. All I know is that I didn't forget what I was supposed to forget. I remember the joys of falling in love, the pains of losing it, and the beauty of life itself through all the ups and downs. I hope that I, Terra, everyone, get to experience that a million times over. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Author's Note Eeee this was so fun to write! I hope you like it <3 I actually really love this concept, so if anyone wants, maybe I'll adapt this into a full thing. Anyways, this was really fun and uh, yeah I hope I win something! ;D
