Hey. Not a topic you’d usually see me talking about, but I just looked at a whole bunch of stuff. Please note that this is completely my opinion, and shouldn’t be used to make on for you. A.K.A, make your own opinion. Ok. Tone tags. What are Tone Tags you may ask? Tone tags are used to determine the tone/intent of one’s message, whether that be /J for joking, or /srs for serious, or /You for slash you. Now, while they can come in handy, let’s be honest with ourselves. Not everyone knows each and every tone tag, and simply using letters cannot determine the tone. Why have one zero context letter when you can just say (Jk), instead of /J. How in god’s green earth am I supposed to understand the tone of someone online through a singular letter? Don’t even start with the amount of time needed to look up each tone tag to understand them, when you can just flat out say how the message is supposed to be understood. It takes less time to say /J than it is for someone to look up “What does /J mean?” Not only this, but tone tags are so volatile and undefined, you can misinterpret what they mean. Again, not a problem you face when you can just clarify in English or what language you speak. Is it really that hard? Tone tags are making things more complicated than they need to be “Oh it’s because it’s just super easy and convenient” Is it convenient for people who don’t know the tags?
