The Perfectly Timed Laugh You: This laugh has exactly zero personality. “Ha. Ha. Ha.” It sounds like they practiced it in front of a mirror. And maybe they did. It’s polite. It’s respectful. But it also feels like it came from a customer service robot. 3. The Delayed Reaction You: You tell the joke. There's silence. And then, three seconds later: “...haha.” Either they just got it, or they realized no one else was laughing and panicked. Either way, it feels like someone pressed the laugh button a little late. 4. The Too Loud for What That Was Laugh You: Sometimes, the joke is mid. And someone reacts like you just won a comedy award. “HAAAHAHAA—YOU’RE SO FUNNY—WAIT—SAY IT AGAIN.” That’s a little suspicious. It’s not that you weren’t funny… it’s just that you weren’t that funny. So, Why Fake Laugh? You: Most of the time, it’s just people being polite. Or trying to keep a conversation from getting weird. Or they want you to feel like your joke landed, even if it kind of fell flat. And honestly… that’s kind of nice. Like, fake laughs are basically social Band-Aids. A Quick Test You: Wanna know if someone’s laugh was fake? Just pause and say, “Wait, was that a real laugh?” Then watch them glitch. You’ll get the truth in three seconds or less. Final Thoughts You: Fake laughs aren’t the enemy. They’re just part of the way people survive small talk. But spotting them? That’s a life skill. Alright, that’s it for this episode.
