:: Chapter Six, pt. 1 :: Brooks A Sea Creature was stalking a caravan. Through a wooded forest. Surrounded by elves. Not exactly the brightest move from someone who was born in the ocean, but Brooks didn't care. She chuckled at the thought. She never would have guessed that she'd end up here, stealing from elves. Actually, no. This was pretty accurate. Brooks glared out at the unknowing elves. Idiots, she thought spitefully. She was just about to step forward and attack one of the guarding elves…when she was rudely interrupted by a wave of fire. The Sea Creature scrambled away from the bushes into the undergrowth. Even in the ocean, where there couldn't be fire, she had heard of the damage it could cause. That was half the reason most people like her had moved underwater, after ambushes by fire. Brooks's eyes were wide, and her chest was heaving in panic as she heard an agonized scream. She slowly inched closer. The other elves were kneeling over a charred body. Brooks shuddered and silently got to her feet. Her eyes narrowed as she saw a small figure in a cloak over the other elves' heads, picking the lock to the wagon that they had been previously guarding. She grabbed the nearest object she could find—a decently sized rock—and threw it into the forest behind her. A loud crack echoed through the forest. She moved through the undergrowth as two guards got up to investigate in the direction of the forest the branch in the distance cracked. Brooks dashed from the protection of the trees. The figure that was picking the locks to the wagon was now tugging at the doors. She ran and grabbed their arm. The person yelped, and Brooks slapped a hand over their mouth as she pulled them to the other side of the wagon. The person stepped away, forcefully pulling their arm away from Brooks's hand. The hood of the cloak fell, revealing their face.
