:: Chapter Six, continued :: Brooks's eyes narrowed as she saw the person. It was an elf, with bright orange hair and flaming red eyes. He had caramel skin, pointed ears, and a scowl. "What are you doing?" he asked angrily. He stepped away, his eyes wide. Brooks glared back at the elf. "I saw this caravan first! I've been following it for days!" Her voice was hushed as she replied. The elf rolled his eyes, scoffing. He stepped away again, his expression wary. Brooks noticed the bags under his eyes, the hollowness of his cheeks. Finally, she sighed. She felt bad for him. "Fine, fine," Brooks said, crossing her arms. "We can help each other, I guess." The elf chuckled sarcastically, a frown still on his lips. "Yeah, I am getting some of this loot, whether you like it or not," he replied, reaching back and throwing his hood over his head again. Brooks studied the elf for a moment as he turned to begin picking locks on this side of the wagon. She felt like she'd seen him before. All at once, it hit her. Those wanted posters…the ones she'd seen when she had first entered the Elven territories. This elf… He was the face of those posters! Brooks realized the elf was glaring back at her. Brooks pointed a finger at him. "You're…you're a wanted criminal," the Sea Creature said, sounding a little curious. She didn't mean to be intrigued, but she had thought all elves had been goody-two-shoes who always followed the rules. The elf glanced at Brooks and raised a brow. "I thought that was obvious," he quipped with a huff. The elf turned back to the locks, continuing to pick them. Brooks scoffed, unamused. "You must think you're so clever," the Sea Creature bit out, her lip curling and revealing her sharp teeth. The elf glanced back at Brooks, almost dismissive, but his red eyes quickly snapped back as he noticed her knife-like teeth. His eyes widened fractionally as Brooks glared back at him and crossed her arms. The elf sighed. "I do, actually," the elf replied, returning to unlocking the wagon. Brooks sighed, leaning back against the wagon. She looked back at the elf. "What's your name?" she asked, quite reluctantly as she observed him. The elf shrugged. "Why d'you want to know?" he replied, not looking up at the Sea Creature as he continued his task. Upon unlocking the wagon, he glanced at Brooks, studying her momentarily. “Adar,” the elf responded, at last, his gaze never drifting from Brooks’ eyes. Brooks sighed, nodding. At last, she had received an answer. There was a moment of silence shared between the two. Brooks could only guess his next move, as there was nothing she could go off of from here.
