the rabbit's watch - mirrors 1 “What time is it?” asked the rabbit, hopping fretfully from foot to foot. “I do hope we are not late.” The raven gave no answer. It rarely did. “Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear,” said the rabbit, his voice rising steadily in both pitch and volume. “I do wish it were not so cloudy, so we could tell the time by the sun!” “Does the sun hide from you,” asked the raven numbly, “or do you hide from it?” “I am afraid I haven’t a fathom what you mean, dear Raven,” answered the rabbit. “I rather think the sun does not hide at all, but is simply tucked away when the time is not right! Imagine if it hid,” laughed the rabbit heartily. “Imagine! What nonsense you say, Raven dearest.” “You shall know my words hold truth quite soon,” murmured the raven, but the rabbit did not hear him over his peals of laughter. “Ah, but I have forgotten my troubles,” the rabbit said at last, wiping a tear of mirth from the corner of a darting red eye. “An amateur mistake, indeed! Why,” he said proudly, puffing up his small chest, “my father would always tell me: Rabbit, fool, do not forget your troubles, or they will forget you and become swollen with poison. Ah, I never did learn what he meant by that, but I am sure it was very clever.” The rabbit retrieved a neatly embroidered handkerchief from the pocket of his vest and dabbed frantically at the corner of his eye. “Raven, my dear friend, did your guardians never warn you of the dangers in the world? It seems that you are always so quick to jump into action! Look before you leap,” he added reproachfully, “that’s what my mother used to say.” “What use would that be,” mulled the raven, “when I have been blessed with such elegant wings, all the better to fly headfirst into danger with?” The rabbit chuckled. “Why, Raven, it seems you always have so much to say, yet I fear I cannot understand a word of it! Certainly my inability to decipher your complex language is no fault of mine, so I fear I must ask you to dull your speech. However do you expect people to know what you mean when you dodge around it so expertly? Get straight to the point, that’s what my grandmother always said. “But ah, again I have forgotten the problem at hand!” exclaimed the rabbit. “We are not becoming any less late. And, I fear,” he continued, his voice dropping at last to a hushed tone, “the queen will not be happy with our arrival. Oh dear”--his voice was rising again--“oh dear, oh dear!” a/n : hi!! this is something i wrote in personal finance haha it is inspired by, you guessed it, wonderland. i think i will make this a series :) as always plsplspls tell me any thoughts/comments/questions/constructive critisicm, i love it! xx - future mars here: i wrote two more parts: what the lovely queen is doing aaaaaaaaand what our girl alice is up to...does her mysterious absence along with the hatter and his tea party have to do with the bandits seen along the roads?
