Just press the space bar to go through some renditions of a sprite I've been practicing with! It sorta shows my progress as a spriter. Not anything too interesting, but I like it. Press UP to see the oldest to most recent. ---------(Separated because I wrote this text quite a while ago...)------ PRESS THE SPACE BAR To Go Through The Different Versions of A Sprite I've Been Making For A Long Time. This Shows My Progress As A Spriter. I've learned this all from PRACTICE. Practice really does make perfect!
Credits to myself! This sprite is based on a few different styles, ranging from the Mother 4 fan game, the Pokemon Series, M&L: Superstar Saga/Bowser's Inside Story, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, etc. --------(Separated because I wrote this text quite a while ago...)---------- The Design Is Based Off Of Myself, As I Like To Think The Way I Look Is Unique, Both In Real Life, And If I Were A Video Game Character. To Represent The Uniqueness I Used Colors You Don't See Often For The Shirt, Which Are Also My Favorite Colors. I Also Tried To Match The Design With A Mother Protagonist Somewhat. 1. was made to think of the concept and design, despite how small it is. I tried recreating something similar to Ninten from Earthbound Beginnings. 2. A redesign, meant to be closer to Mother 4, yet it was too brightly colored, and had little to no variety in shaded. Shape wasn't too bad though. However, I did very lightly put SOME shading into this, which I darkened later and kept. 3. I tried to mask the way it looked too bright by adding a black outline. I hadn't realized how to fix this yet, but I was on the right track. I also slightly altered the shaped and sizes of the shoes and arms to look more normal. 4. This is when I somewhat realized that it was too bright. I hadn't realized yet that it needs to be darkened even more than this. 5. I recreated the sprite pixel by pixel, but with different colors and shaded. It REALLY improved the color scheme, and helped with the color shade and outline problem. 6. This was when I realized I really do need it to have an outline, but that it shouldn't be outside the sprite. This is also when I figured out how to put lighter outlines inside the shape, and darker outlines on the edges. 7. After playing lots of Pokemon, I figured that the sprite needed the shading to be in different spots, as to make it look like its facing more forward-ish downward. It didn't work, but there were some minor details fixed as well, like with the arm and sleeve size, or shoes. Most importantly, I noticed in Pokemon black that the sprites had dark outlines in shaded or lower areas, while more colorful outlines in more light areas. This is surprisingly important. 8. After a few months of playing Pokemon, I decided to redesign my sprite from what I noticed about the Pokemon trainer sprites. This needed more shading, it was WAY too chubby, and the shading on top of the hair had to be flatter to make it look like it was looking more forward. 9. Before, it was just a head, so here I added a body. The head was slightly made less wide, but there were still some problems. However the shading for the clothing is amazing! 10. Head Reduction. 11. More Head Reduction. That was a real problem. 12. I tried to fix the shading in the head, and it helped! 13. Tiny improvement to chin, but really important! 14. Before the size of him was too small. Abnormal bobble-head small. This improved that, but gave him the world's worst shoulders. 15. Shoulder Reduction. 16. More Shoulder Reduction. This was also a major problem. 17. The hair was supposed to look neat-ish on top, but with style, while somewhat frizzy on the size, but sticking out to the left and right. This helped make that more clear. 18. This wasn't too important, but I made the lighting on the hair different to make it look less like you can see the top of his head, and more like you can see his front.
