If I Could Speak These Words If. "If I could I would". I could if I would. But I won't. "Ifs" and "maybes" don't do much when they ask and all you can say is "I don't know anymore." When they call the defense and you could state your case. You could speak the words but you won't. I Wish I wish I was brave. I wish I was strong. I wish I didn't take more than I gave. I wish I didn't always go along. I wish merely wishing could do what it takes for all these whispered wishes to come true. Yes Curse my indecisiveness. "Would you rather that or this?" "Yes?" Last Night I wrote a song last night I sat down at my piano to write a song full of little white lies I tell myself to make it alright What did you do last night? Rhyming Troubles I'm sitting here writing a limerick I'm sitting here now and I'm bored of it. I'm right out of time To find a good rhyme Please, tell me what rhymes with "a limerick"?
These poems are almost entirely free verse (no specific traditional structure or organization). It's my favorite kind of poetry tbh which is probably why I did that. They're also all rough drafts, so I will be editing them at some point. Most of them are written during writer's block and aren't the best, sorry lol Inspiration (or lack thereof): If I Could Speak These Words: This isn't supposed to make sense and yet also is...? Idk how to explain it, it's basically just about what I want to say and how I never seem to be able to say it. Also draws on a... um emotional experience I had earlier this year a little. My dad's a lawyer so I felt like throwing in an allusion to a court case to represent being attacked verbally. I Wish: Lowkey drawing on the verses of Chasing the Sun by Sara Bareilles in a way (go listen to it I love her music sm). The theme of this portfolio is basically about unspoken words and the trouble of actually speaking up so it's pretty self-explanatory. It's one of the main reasons why I get mad at myself sometimes. Yes: I'm super indecisive, so everything about me is basically the "Do you like ____ or ____?" "Yes" joke. I mean look at me my body couldn't even choose if I liked boys or girls so it went with both lol. This one is kinda supposed to be funny, or at least to me Last Night: This started out as me playing around with enjambment (the arrangement of lines, chopping up sentences into multiple lines without punctuation, that kinda stuff). It turned into a poem about crushing on someone who can't like you back. That's all there is to it really. Rhyming Troubles (limerick): This one is mostly just supposed to be funny. Not really sure why I wrote it, limericks are silly and I felt like it. It doesn't fit the theme at all so I might transfer it later if I release more poems. This portfolio is, again, unrevised, so not my best work but I figured I'd share them anyways bc I haven't posted a fun project in a LONG time. So yay here ya go :D
