Can't believe I forgot last Wednesday Prev: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1159590043 1st: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1159590043 Next: Wednesday (someone pla remind me) No this isn't the revised version Chapter Two “I’m.… What?” Leif blurted out. His mother passed him the mail-player and he ran his eyes down each line; Dear Erik, I hope this finds you well. G.O.T.P.( Government Official Teaching Program) would like to invite you to our exploration program this summer. It's like a school, we'll teach you many advanced arts; physical or mental. Then near the end of the summer or however long it takes we’ll select one of you to gear up with our team and go to the surface. -“The surface?!” Lief said aloud- Yes we know what you're saying ‘The surface? But how?’ Well, we have a group of scientists here in the G.O.T.P. who have made suits to block the radiation from getting in once you are on the surface (if you do get picked). There is a lot of interesting science behind it but you’ll find that all out later when you or if you arrive here! And of course the whole purpose of this project is to explore the earth surface for artifacts. Many other young men and women around your age will be invited as well, they are as talented and skilled as you are with different traits. We hope you will accept this once in a lifetime request to join us (and many others) to our program. If you do make sure you get your parent’s digital signature as well as packing everything you need for this camp (list on page two). You’ll be a great member of our team. Looking forward to seeing you soon, G.O.T.P. Leif’s mouth was left ajar. He managed to open his mouth and say, “I-I what?” “You've been invited to a special program,” His mother replied. “Oh… Why?” he turned to her, setting the mail-player down. “Well you're the best swimmer in your class, not to mention the youngest, too.” “...Huh?” His mother rubbed her face then spoke slowly, “You, are, invite-” “Mom I’m not stupid,” he said, cutting her off immediately, “I’m just.… surprised.” She mustered a small smile. Weird. He was stricken back by this sudden thought but realized he hardly ever sees her smile. Leif smiled. “Well I think you should go,” she said, eyes back on the invitation as the smile slipped from her face. “Oh…” He kept a nervous smile on his face. “Could I sleep on it?” His mother paused and an awkward moment came; just Leif and his mother staring at each other. “Okay but Istill want you to go.” She nodded and got up. “I’m going to do some work.” She walked to her room and shut the door behind her. Leif slumped down on a chair. He didn't want to go to this thing at all. There was not a chance he would get picked for the exploration part anyway. All he wanted was to be a normal sad teenager who swam a lot. He sighed and went to his room. He flopped down on his bed. GURGLEE. His stomach roared with hunger. He regretted not eating the rest of his nutrient bar. Even so he didn't get off his bed to eat the rest of that disgusting excuse for food. He didn't bother pulling the blankets over him. The temperature was just right anyway. Leif woke up halfway off his bed. “Aaugh…” he mumbled and got ready for the day. Clean white suit on. Dark hair brushed. Pale face washed. And his teeth brushed. Yup, he was ready for monday. He sat down at the kitchen table and picked up his half eaten bar. “So did you decide?” leif jumped at her voice He looked up at her. “What…?” “Did you decide if you wanted to go or not?” she said eating a nutrient bar. “Oh.” He shifted his feet. “Well… I, uh, don't think I want to…” he muttered the last part so he could barely hear himself. “What?” “I… I don't want to go.” His mother paused, considering this. “Why?” she finally said. He gaped and said, “you’re actually gonna let me-” “I'm going to consider it.” “Oh well then,” he thought for a second then said, “I just don't think I should because… because I’ll probably fail anyway.” right as he said he knew he had picked the wrong words because his mother’s face drooped immediately. She massaged her around her eyes. “Leif I-” she groaned -“I just feel like you should go.” “Oh…” Leif crossed his arms, eyes glued to the floor. “Yeah. Yeah, of course.” his mother sighed and went off to her room. (cont)
Leif finished writing the answer to his last math question. “Done.” he gasped, setting it aside. He fell onto his bed, He had finished all his school for the day. There was still something to do, though. He groaned as he sat up and walked to the kitchen. He picked up the mail player and switched it to page two of his invitation. There was a packing list of all the necessities he needed for this crazed “summer camp”.Leif pulled out a large suitcase. He slumped back to his room and began to read the list; 10 pairs of standard white, gray, or black body length suits, he laid his white ones in. 3-5 standard white, gray, or black swimsuits, he took two gray and two white. 2 pairs of standard… etc. after a while leif had packed almost everything. He was only missing a couple things which he would ask his mother to buy. He sat limp, in his chair. Why did he have to go? There really was no point. Did his mother actually think he could be picked? If she did then she most certainly was wrong. What if I actually did? He snorted at the thought. Him? Being picked out of, tens, Hundreds, Of kids? No way. Stupid. No one wants to pick hopeless Leif. No one. He sighed. Maybe if he showed a bit more enthusiasm to things he enjoyed doing more people would want to be his friend. Maybe if he tried to be friends with them first. He sighed lying down on his bed. Why was he like this? As the weeks passed Leif grew more and more angry. It wasn’t fair. Shouldn't he have some say on whether he wanted to stay or not? He kept having these thoughts until the time came; it was almost the end of school, June 4th. Tomorrow he would be leaving for the program facility. His hands shook as he packed the last things. I am not scared, he thought furiously, I AM NOT! The day seemed to pass before his eyes then it was night and he was lying his head on his pillow. He seemed to have no time at all. (there’s more inside the project)
