SO. I'ma do it. I really want to see this story through! The story takes place in a semi-apocalyptic magical version of our world, where a plague is spreading like wildfire. This plague is the Jovial plague*. A laboratory decided they would search for the cure in hopes of earning money by selling it. Instead, they found that they could use the parasite in the plague for a sort of hypnosis. They decided to experiment with that on animals, which had different minds than humans did. They were able to turn the hypnosis on and off and control the parasite's actions through certain sounds. enabling further experimentation. They had a brilliant idea. They could profit off of their experiments by providing a sort of entertainment to this fragmented world. They stuck with dogs as their experiments, since they were cheap enough to care for and were better rounded in magical tricks. A circus was created, and they used their experiments as performers, using their magic for jaw-dropping performances. They got more and more renown, until they were the main source of entertainment. Now, they aim to make sure the Jovial plague is never cured, in hopes of keeping their discoveries and profits to themselves. They could keep getting money from the circus, but if they published a cure, they could get shut down for keeping such a dangerous virus. The circus could give them funds over long periods of time, rather than a one-time sale. They wouldn't get sued so long as nobody knew they were using the virus. They thought it was a foolproof plan. Their schemes of grandeur are thrown off when they decide to take in a normal pup and give him magic manually, resulting in a chain of events.
A story without a cat as a main character?! Absurd! The dog was rushed. Can you smell the fear in it's eyes? Warning: Mildly disturbing description. *Jovial plague: It roots itself in the mind of it's host and starts to form a parasite in the brain system. Eventually, the parasite will make the host's brain release excessive amounts of dopamine. This makes the host non-stop happy, also allowing the parasite to control them easier. They spread the plague by trapping other people and getting to a vein, placing a little parasite egg in their bloodstream that will eventually make it's way to the brain and open into a bunch of little virus cells. Sometimes, the parasite gets so big that it will remove the host's eyes. If it gets to this point, the host will die, leaving the parasite in full control. This is all my lore. No taek. I would be very dimscabointed. (disappointed) Edit: I'm not sure about a circus anymore, and the magic could probably be left out. I think maybe military training could be better fit? Or making them into a show? It could be an elaborate scheme set up by the lab and the government a couple years or less after the plague, so economy is up and running, but the lab holds a bunch of the parasites in containment and gets dogs with faulty genetics for cheap from a dog breeding facility then does all the control stuff up there and makes shows while the whole entertainment part of society is still recovering,
