C6 Frost and Flame: A Tail of Two Sisters

Long chapter alert! The day was nice and sunny, the birds were singing, the stream was flowing, and Elderberryfur was happy to be able to help AirClan. It was nearly sunhigh, so Elderberryfur was running as fast as she could with her bundle of herbs to the AirClan border so she could give their medicine cat Charcoalwisp, the herbs their clan needed. She couldn’t believe that this early into leaffall cats were already getting sick with whitecough and greencough, although she was worried the sickness might spread, she wanted more than anything to be able to help AirClan. When she was almost to the border, she spotted a mouse in the bushes. She figured if Charcoalwisp was busy dealing with sick cats, he wouldn’t have had much time to eat. She stalked the mouse a little ways, then pounced and killed it with a swift nip. She picked up her herb bundle and the mouse, and walked to the border. When she got there, she saw Charcoalwisp waiting for her. “Is that a mouse?” he asked, Elderberryfur could tell that he was hungry. “Yes, it is. I brought it for you. I figured that with your clan sick, you wouldn’t have had much time to eat.” Charcoalwisp licked his chest fur in embarrassment. “Thank you, I greatly appreciate it. With so many cats sick, no one’s had much to eat.” Elderberryfur nodded. “Eat up, I have the herbs you need. I gathered catnip, tansy, borage, coltsfoot, feverfew, and juniper berries. All the herbs I could think of to help fevers and coughs. I hope that’ll help your clanmates.” Charcoalwisp started purring, “Thank you Elderberryfur, I haven’t had time to gather herbs, and I was running low on most of these. You’re a great help. StarClan will honor you.” Now it was Elderberryfur’s turn to lick her chest in embarrassment. “Thank you, those are kind words. I just wanted to help your clan when I have all the herbs you need.” Charcoalwisp nodded. “I best be on my way now, thank you for the herbs and the mouse.” Elderberryfur decided to do one last thing for the medicine cat. “Wait here for a few extra minutes.” she said. Charcoalwisp nodded in bewilderment. A few moments later Elderberryfur came back with 2 mice and a vole in her jaws. “Here, if your clan isn’t able to hunt, give this to the sickest cats. I know Briarstar would agree with me, and if she doesn’t then I will take the blame.” Charcoalwisp was astonished. “T-t-thank you! AirClan will not forget you and your clan’s kindness.” Elderberryfur nodded, licked the medicine cat’s shoulder, turned around, and headed back to the EarthClan camp. When Charocalwisp went back to camp, he placed the mice on the freshkill pile, and took the vole and the herbs back to his den. He gave his sickest clanmate the vole, and then started to administer the herbs. Back in the EarthClan camp, Elderberryfur reported to Briarstar. “I gave Charocalwisp catnip, tansy, borage, coltsfoot, feverfew, juniper berries, three mice, and a vole.” Briarstar nodded. “That was kind of you. I’m proud that you did what you thought was right.” Elderberryfur nodded, “Is it alright that I gave him some freshkill for him and his clanmates? I could see his ribs!” Briarstar dipped her head in acknowledgement. “It is alright, I’m proud of you for being compassionate.” Elderberryfur dipped her head in respect, turned around, and went back to her den to rest after her long day.
