Her violet eyes are bright as she slams a folder down on the table. “This is it, detectives. We've got it.” Division Night and Division Morning's agents crowd into the room as Nyx opens the folder, scattering papers across the table. “We discovered the schematics for groundbreaking technology,” Eris blurts, looking like she's about to explode with excitement. She points to the diagram on the table – a small machine that looks suspiciously like…a spider. “These are the things that have been scuttling all over the city for weeks now,” Nyx continues. “Icarus called them SPYDERS.” SPYDERS. The blackouts…the webs… “Some things are clicking into place now,” you admit. “You think?” Eris asks, arching an eyebrow. “But anyways, it turns out that Isaac isn't the good little boy everyone thought he was. He was using these to try and steal from Solis, his biggest rival. ”Unfortunately for the world, Solis caught on,“ Nyx says, flipping over another piece of paper. ”They tried to tamper with the SPYDERS, but they didn't fully understand the technology. They ended up accidentally releasing the SPYDERS on the city, where they began messing with everything. Leaving webs, hacking devices…even leaching energy when they needed to recharge or they simply were trying to cause havoc, which is what caused the blackouts.“ ”After that, they realized that there was only one person who could fix the problem,“ Eris said, drawing the moment out for dramatic effect. ”Their creator. And we know where they took him.“ After just a moment of thought, you do too. Solis' high-tech facilities…the ones floating in the sky above even the tallest skyscrapers. It's legendary for not only its groundbreaking technology but its security. It's the perfect place to keep someone hidden. ”What are we going to do?“ you ask, nerves buzzing under your skin. This is it. This is why you love this line of work. All the clues snap together, and the end of the case is in sight. Eris glances at Nyx. ”We're going to contact the authorities first,“ she says. ”But Solis knows too much. They're too intwined with, well, everything – and I don't entirely trust anyone but us to get the job done the right way.“ ”So we're going in too,“ Nyx announces coolly, crossing her legs as though she'd just informed everyone of something as simple as the weather. Eris leans forward, eyes wide and mouth curving open in a grin, and for the first time you notice that her canines are abnormally sharp. ”Are you ready?“ she asks. [+] cont...
[-] cont... You want to say no. You want to ask how a small team of detectives, even with the backup of the military, could possible infiltrate the most secure location in the world and get out safely with Icarus. But another look at Eris' wicked smile, and Nyx's eerie calm, and you swallow your doubts and nod. You don't know the story behind these two. You're not even sure you want to know. But if they're in charge of this operation, they're more than capable of doing what it takes. You've seen them in action…although you can't help but wonder if you've ever really seen them at their peak. Again, you don't think you want to. ”Suit up, detectives,“ Nyx says, standing, her hand on her katana. Eris does too, cracking her knuckles. Come to think of it, you've never seen Eris with a weapon. There's no time to ask right now, but you wonder about it as you throw your gear on. ”We ready?“ Eris asks, scanning the team. ”Okay. Let's head out.“ She and Nyx lead you down a hallway you've never been down before. No one asks where the team is headed. Ever since the final pieces of evidence were revealed, your teammates have been unusually quiet. You understand; you don't feel much like talking either. There's too much at stake here. A few seconds later, Nyx and Eris stop at a door. There's a keypad, along with several other security measures. Together, the two of them clear them all, and the door hisses open. You're momentarily dumbfounded. ”A jet?“ you gasp, eyes glued to the sleek, black-and-purple plane that rests in the hangar. ”You've had access to a private jet? This whole time?“ Eris smirks. ”There's a lot about this place you don't know about,“ she says. ”Load up, gang. We need to move it.“ There's room for everyone in the jet, and Nyx settles into the pilot seat. You're glad she's piloting and not Eris – the eccentric detective would probably pull a couple of barrel rolls just to shake everyone up a bit. The plane zips down the runway, and in no time you're ascending into the sky. You can't see it yet, but you know you're headed straight towards the Solis facility. You close your eyes and wonder what you've gotten yourself into, not for the first time. As you get closer, you notice more activity in the air. The military is in the process of arriving, and suddenly, this is getting a little too real. Eris turns around in her seat, making eye contact with each and every agent. ”We're going to keep out of the fire as much as possible, but anything could happen in a scenario like this,“ she says, her usual bubbliness replaced by cold intensity. You're used to hearing that tone from Nyx, but not from Eris. ”Stick to orders if you can. Keep yourselves alive if you can't.“ Detectives shift nervously, darting glances at one another. People could get hurt. In fact, people probably will. Eris looks around the jet one more time. ”We've made it so far, agents.“ A smile cracks her seriousness, one that stretches wide enough to show her canines again. ”Let's finish cracking this case, if we can. And if we can't…“ Her purple eyes light up with a wild light. ”Then we're going to go out with a bang.“ Nyx flips switches, speaking into her headset. ”Prepare for landing, agents." You reach for your seatbelt, ready to unbuckle and exit the jet. This might end up being your last operation. But if it is, you're going to make it a good one. [ end of file ] Hey, agents!
