ANZAC Day, celebrated on April 25th in Australia and New Zealand, is a holiday to commemorate war veterans. On April 25th, 1915, ANZAC (Australia and New Zealand Army Corps.) soldiers landed in the Gallipoli Peninsula as a part of the Gallipoli Campaign in World War 1. Causality rates at Gallipoli were very high, with estimates of around 8,700 Australians and 2,700 New Zealanders killed. Troops were withdrawn on the 20th of December of the same year. ANZAC Day was first commemorated in 1916. Lest we forget.
