Scratch is completely not the same as when I first joined. ALMOST everyone that were role models for the young coders have left Scratch for other hobbies or school. For example Griffpatch, one of the most popular Scratchers, hasn't even been active in the past few months. Most of the best projects in explore are animations since the others are not original. And yes I do know most of my projects aren't original but I'm not a very good coder and is kinda just on this website for the fun of it.
