1. Hello, and welcome to my SWC application! I’m Ember (they/them or any pronouns, Pacific Timezone). I’ve been in every session of SWC since November 2022, all as a camper. I’ve been part of other Scratch camps such as Scratch Reading Camp and Scratch Art Camp, I do a lot of art in my free time, and I’m about to start reading Sunrise on the Reaping! Math is my last favorite subject, and English is my favorite (writing my beloved <3) Fact about me: I’m left handed!! 2. SWC-related, I have no expereience (co)-leading. This will be my 8th SWC session, though! I have previously co-led an SRC cabin, and have led two SAC lodges. Outside of Scratch, I have experience volunteering! I do volunteer work often in the community, but I won’t go too into detail. 3. The cabin highest on my preference list would have to be Mystery. I would also be happy with Thriller. The idea I have for this cabin is almost identical to the storyline for my WUC cabin: Campers are led to an abandoned mansion from a note they found, only to be trapped by a ghost haunting it. Your leader, a tired demon running on the last bits of their sanity (and several cups of coffee), has been working for hours on end to find someone, without any luck. The campers have been tasked with helping him, while his co-leader(s), other ghosts haunting the mansion, leave clues they find to help. Thriller would follow the same general idea! (Or we could have a Paranormal cabin). I tend to be a very competitive person, so I will be leaning towards no to leading TCTWNW. 4. Loud footsteps click against the creaky wooden floors, pushing down planks that are lifted off the floor only for them to spring back up again. They sit down in a nearby seat, drinking what is probably their fifth cup of coffee today. The knock on the door almost makes them drop the cup, and the individual takes a deep breath before standing up and shouting “Come in,” albeit tiredly. That isn’t even one person. There are so many they can’t even count. 5. I plan to dedicate at least 4 to 7 hours a day to SWC during the planning months and the session itself, but I will be taking summer school. This should not be something that prevents me from fulfilling the hours I plan to dedicate. I will be busy the 16th of July, though, as that is my birthday. If any unexpected event comes up during June or July, I will notify a host as soon as possible. 6. When it comes to time management in camps, I can stay on top of my tasks unless distractions come up. My strongest weaknesses are definitely distractions and heavy procrastination, which I have been working to improve on. I plan on using my time wisely during this session, and I will be overcoming my issues with time management. One of my main strengths is goal setting. I set strong and SMART goals for myself while prioritizing more difficult tasks over easier tasks. 7. When it comes to the collaboration aspect, I can be hesitant to work with new people, but I am definitely open to the idea of it! I can take a little too much of the workload sometimes (speaking from experience co-leading), but I have learned to evenly split the workload and communicate better with other people, especially online. Being honest is also a strength of mine; I can be honest with people if I need to. 8. The one quality in a leader that is the most important to me is integrity. Integrity is a very important quality to possess, especially in a leadership setting. I believe I possess this quality because integrity means you’re honest and are truthful to yourself and others. I believe I can apply this to my leadership in SWC, and here is how. I feel like a lot of people have seen a poster with the words “Integrity means doing the right thing when nobody else is looking.” I want to make sure I am doing the right thing when leading, because when someone isn’t looking, it might mean they trust you. 9. I aim to create a cozy atmosphere for new and returning campers. While I love competition, I don’t want that aspect to be the main focus. 10. Yes, I will be available to consistently add points in the main cabin. I am also willing to share a promotional project for SWC. There are no leadership responsibilities in the FAQ that I cannot complete. In the case of inactive leadership, I will notify a host and will make sure to transfer ownership to an active co-leader. If I am co-leading and am given ownership of the cabin, I will make sure everything runs smoothly by consistently checking the leader’s word count group and keeping track of their word counts.
