The Sorting ceremony was in full swing, echoing with the Sorting Hat’s verdicts as students took their place among their houses. Camilla Nyx stood near the front, posture impeccable, hands resting lightly at her sides. Perfect daughters did not fidget. She listened with quiet detachment until— "Nyx, Camilla." She strode forward, poised and elegant. As she sat on the worn wooden stool, the Sorting Hat settled over her, its voice curling into her mind. "Ahh… clever, ambitious, calculating—you know exactly how to wear your mask. Slytherin will suit you well." "Slytherin!" the Hat declared. Polite applause rippled from the Slytherin table, led by the familiar smirk of Draco Malfoy. She approached the table, sliding gracefully into the seat beside him. "No surprise there," Draco murmured. She allowed herself a soft chuckle. "Obviously." Professor Snape approached. His sharp gaze flickered between them, voice low, measured. "Mr. Malfoy. Miss Nyx." Draco straightened slightly, jaw tight. "Lucius informed me of your arrangement," Snape continued, his tone carrying no outward emotion—but something knowing lurked beneath it. "How fortunate." Camilla gave a polite sip of her pumpkin juice, her smile flawless. "Fortunate is one word for it." Draco scoffed. "It wasn’t exactly our choice." Snape hummed, his eyes narrowing. "I trust you will conduct yourselves accordingly." As he swept away, Draco exhaled beside her. And in that moment, his fingers brushed against hers beneath the table—a fleeting squeeze, hesitant but deliberate. She froze, just slightly. Their eyes met. Draco wasn't looking at her directly, but his ears tinged pink. Camilla smirked. "Blushing?” He immediately lifted his goblet, taking a long sip of pumpkin juice like he hadn’t heard her.
