Chapter 22 OhMyGodsWhatJustHappened- ----- “Abby.” I wake up and almost fall out of the tree, but with Jacob catching me and pulling me back up. I blush and then adjust my glasses. “What happened? Oh no, did I fall asleep?!” I ask, a bit frazzled. “Wow, calm down. Abbs, nothing happened. It’s like 5 am.” “Why the Hades did you wake me up at 5 am?!” “You were going to fall out of the tree.” I blink. “Oh… Thanks…” “Mmhm. Also, I woke up randomly and wanted to check on you,” Jacob said, looking down a bit. I could have sworn he was blushing, but it might have just been the lighting of 5 am in Cal!forn!a playing tricks on my eyes. I smiled a bit at the thought that he might have been blushing. We both stare at each other for a bit until we hear a rustling in the bushes. Our smiles fade and our hands go to our w3ap0ns, then we climb down the tree and proceed to hide behind it. Jacob pulls out his sw0rd, and I turn my bracelet into the dagg3r. ‘3, 2, 1’ I motion, counting down. Then, when I reach 1, me and him come out from behind the tree and quietly go to the bush. I count down again. ‘1.’ Jacob opens up to the bush and sees… nothing. “What?” I mutter, and press the piece of the hilt that looks like an owl. It turns back into a bracelet, and I slip it back on. Jacob puts his sw0rd away. “Y-you saw something, right? I-I’m not going insane, right?” Jacob asks me, looking a bit scared. I put my hands on his shoulders. “Yes. If you are going insane, then I must be too. Though, that would be very interesting. Two people having the same hallucination at the same time.” I begin to ramble on about the chances of that happening, until Jacob snaps in front of my face. “Earth to Abby Via. Come in, Abby Via,” he grins a bit, then continues, “It’s five in the morning, can we save the smarty-pants child of the wisdom goddess junk ‘till after noon?” “First of all, it’s not ‘junk’-” I start but then Jacob starts walking away. I follow him. “Second of all, I might forget about this at noon.” Jacob keeps walking. “Third of all,” I grab him by the arm and turn him towards me, which makes him look surprised, but cutely surprised. “Third of all,” I repeat, “If we just had the same hallucination, it can’t be a hallucination. The chances are too slim.” “Mmhm, okay, miss smarty, I’m going to bed. Good night,” Jacob says, walking away. “Did you just call me a ‘smartie’, Jacob?! I am not candy!” I somewhat-quietly scream at him. He turns around, grinning with a mischievous glint in his eye. “You are to me. Good night.” I let him walk away as I stand there, trying to process what just happened, my mouth open, but no words forming. I feel myself blush and then climb back up into the tree, smiling to myself.
