This song almost made me cry while listening to it. I never tear up at songs ever. It was close to me crying and that is so rare…. The song is about a fan that is obsessed with Eminem (parasocial relationship, FYI the fan is not a real person, he exists only in the song as an example of some Eminem fans) By the way, most of the song (except for the chorus, which is sung by Dido, she has a beautiful soft voice, and the very last part ) is Eminem reading the letters made by that super obsessive fan. Basically, the fans name is Stan. He is obsessed with Eminem, he even loves Eminem more than his pregnant girlfriend and in the music video it is shown he abuses that girlfriend. Near the end he dies while driving on a wet highway to go to Eminem’s house. (I think? He was trying to send a tape to him) If you were wondering, the word stan comes from this song!!! Stan means somebody who is an intense fan of something or someone. Eminem made a word!! How cool is that!!
