The car ride home was silent. Ms. Furitiv drove, looking straight ahead while Michaela fidgeted with her fingers. After a couple minutes, Michaela couldn't deal with the quiet. It made her to nervous. "Are-are you mad?" She asked quietly. Her mom didn't respond. Then, they were home. Michaela reached for the car door handle when Ms. Furitiv sighed. Michaela froze. "Why, Michaela? Why would you lie?" She asked after another agonizing minute. "I-I didn't. I really did see a boy. I've been seeing this boy." Michaela looked at her mother, pleading for her to believe. "Michaela, just stop. I cant deal with lies." Her mom snapped. Michaela's heart sank. Her mother hadn't yelled at her... ever! She was always calm, sweet, and always believed her children told the truth. Tears pricked Michaela's eyes. "I-I-I'm sorry mommy." She mumbled before leaving the car and running to her bedroom. She slammed her door shut and laid on her bed, crying. Why was she crying? For some odd reason, Michaela felt as if the world somehow ended. Michaela cried herself to sleep, but her dreams were no better than the present. She kept seeing Anton's sickly face as her mother yelled at her over and over. Then a man showed up. Michaela never met this man, but she assumed it had to be her dad. He looked a lot like David, but older. Then the man yelled at her too. Blaming her for having to leave, and never seeing her mother again. Michaela woke to cold sweat beading down her neck and back. Her sheets were sticky and wet, and her pillow had new stains covering it. She glanced at her alarm clock and it read 5:49. Michaela moaned and got out of bed. Her hair felt crusty so she took a warm shower. She put on clean pajamas since she was suspended for the next three days. Then, Michaela took her sheets and comforter and put them in the wash. Michaela shuddered as she remembered her dream. Maybe she shouldn't have put on pj's, she should really look for Anton. What if he was still hurt somewhere? Michaela then put a black sweater and jeans on her body and quietly left the house. It hadn't been that long since she woke up, only an hour, but the house was quiet. Michaela thought that was weird, since David had school soon, but she put that to the back of her mind. She needed to focus on finding Anton. Then she might be able to prove to her mother that she wasn't lying. Michaela walked the entire town trying to find Anton to no avail. Her town was small, but it still took hours for her to search it. She continuously called his name, and asked others if they had seen him. No one seemed to know who he was. Not a single soul recognized his name. Michaela's stomach grumbled as she passed a small bakery. She'd never seen it since before today, another odd thing since she grew up here. It was called the Cupcakery and had a pink cupcake wrapper-like roof. She stepped inside and was surrounded by the smell of baked goods. Oranges, vanilla, chocolate, sugar, and so much more. It smelled fruity, but savory, sweet, but salty all at the same time. Inside, there was a large counter with dessert after dessert lined on it. Michaela walked to the counter and had to stop herself from grabbing a pastry. No one was in the room so Michaela called out. "Hello? Is anyone here? I'd like to buy something." Michaela smiled, even though no one was around. She waited a couple more minutes before turning to leave. Thats when she saw him. Anton was slowly making his way away from the bakery! Michaela ran out the door and called his name. Anton froze and slowly turned around. Color had returned to his face since she last saw him but he looked slightly scared. "Anton! Where have you been? I've looked all over town! I've been..." As Michaela walked closer to him, she realized something was wrong. He wasn't smiling, he didn't wave, he just stared at her. "Maria?" He mumbled, squinting his eyes. Michaela rolled her eyes. "I told you before, I'm not Maria. I don't even know any Marias." She smiled playfully. "What happened to you?" "Right. Michaela." He looked dazed, like he just woke up from a very very long nap and couldn't quite hold on to his surroundings. "Anton, are you okay?" Michaela felt worry creep up her arms and toward her heart. "Fine! Fine. Fine..." He blinked hard before sitting on the curb of the road. "I-I'm fine. Sorry." "What happened yesterday?" Michaela asked again. "Yesterday? Oh, yesterday. I uh, was just a little sick. Sorry." Anton stared into the distance. Michaela furrowed her eyebrows. "If you were sick why did you come to school? Wait, how come you don't go to school? I got in trouble because they don't believe me that you were sick." "Oh. Sorry. I-er, I never did say I go to school..." he said. "Anton, your acting weird." She looked at him as he just stared in a daze. "Why." He mumbled. "What?" "Why is it you can resist the wish?" Anton looked at her, and she saw confusion fill his deep brown eyes.
"What on earth are you talking about?" Michaela almost laughed. What 'wish'? "My wishes. If I could grant you any wish you could possibly want, what would it be?" His eyes pleaded her to answer. "I don't have a wish I want granted." \/ --Notes-- I'm sorry it's been a while since I last posted one... I'll try to remember to write this more, heh.
