Backstory: Daedalus, a renowned inventor, and his son, Icarus, are imprisoned on the island of Crete. With wax and feathers, Daedalus designs two pairs of wings, one for himself, and one for his son. Their plan is to fly from their island of captivity to freedom. Before they leave, Daedalus warns his son, Icarus, neither to fly near the sea because the feathers would be weighed down by the water, nor to fly near the sun, since the heat would melt the wax. After the warning, they take off, and soar through the sky. You play as Icarus. *Spolier alert!* During the flight, Icarus does not heed his father’s warning, and eventually flies too close to the sun. This melts his wax wings, so that he is unable to fly. Icarus drowns in the sea below, while his father reaches safety and freedom.
In memory of Icarus. Daedalus for the epic wings. Ovid for his Metamorphoses. (Book 8, lines 219-278) Stanley Lombardo for his translation. And King Minos for making it all possible. My final project for PCA 262. :)
