So the red marking is something she just recently put on to keep the demon/monster inside her from taking over again. The cat with red eyes is the demon/monster. Every once in a while the demon/monster tries to gain control and the cat (haven't given her a name yet) is worried the demon/monster will break the spell of the mark.
