I wrote this for fun: Long Lost… Friend? It was a long Tuesday in the middle of a hot day during spring. We were at a history museum on a field trip. It seemed like the longest of my life. “This is the saber tooth tiger. They went extinct around ten-thousand years ago. Their long, curved teeth had a bite force of around ten-thousand newtons. A lion usually has three-thousand.” My teacher, Miss. Granger finished her explanation on the “amazing” saber tooth tiger. I rolled my eyes. Why bother learning about something that would never be useful. They were already dead! Who cared? My phone buzzed. Hope, my best friend, texted me. HOPE: where r u? I replied: SOPHIE: w/ miss granger ? “Sophie, why is your phone out again?” Miss. Granger was hovering over me. Her eyes dug into mine. “I told you, no phones.” “I was only taking pictures, Miss. Granger,” I replied innocently. I always tried to stay on her good side. Her bad one, well, let's just say that it wasn’t very pretty. It wasn’t even close at al. She looked sceptical for a moment. “Very well,” she sighed. “Lunch break!” Finally, something that I actually want to do. Eat my lunch. I sat down on a bench by the doors and opened my lunchbox. Inside was half of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a small bag of Doritos, a blue gatorade, and an apple. I didn’t like apples, so I threw it at my worst enemy, Drew Smith. It hit his head with a soft thump. He looked at me. Well, he glared at me. I just smiled cutely and waved. “Alright students! Lunch is over! Time to go!” Mr. Eli, another one of my teachers, directed, only ten minutes after our lunch had started. I threw my trash in the trash can and ran over to him. “I need to go to the restroom,” I told him. He shooed me away. I walked to the girls bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror. My hair was up in a neat ponytail, my makeup was flawless. It covered the pimple on my nose. Then, I saw something in the mirror. Or someone. I quickly turned around, but I was nothing. I ignored it and turned back to the mirror. There it was again! Before I could look behind me again, something hard smacked me on the back of the head. Before I could realize what had happened, I blacked out and fell to the floor. I woke up on the floor of the museum bathroom. The lights were off and it was dead silent. Except for one noise: someone crying. Who was it? I sat up and rubbed my head. How long was I out for? I stood up and stumbled my way through the dark until I reached the bathroom exit. I walked out and saw a figure sitting on the ground against the wall across from me. It was a human. They were sitting with their legs up and their arms on their knees. Their head was buried in their arms. They were the source of the crying. The ground underneath them was wet with tears. I looked out the glass doors. It was night and the whole museum was locked up. I slowly walked closer to the figure. Suddenly, I stepped on a chip bag. It crinkled, and the figure went silent and looked up at me. Then it stood up. I couldn’t quite tell who it was, so I got out my phone and turned on my flashlight. I shined it on them. It was Drew! I gasped and dropped my phone. “Shophia?” he asked, confused. “Is that you?” I picked up my phone and the light shined on my face. “It is you!” He sounded surprised and, surprisingly, not mad. I ran over to the door and pushed on it. It didn’t open. I ran to the next door. Locked. I started to panic. “They’re all locked,” Drew said suddenly. I opened my mouth to say somthing, but Drew said, “Shh!” I looked at him, confused. “Something’s coming.” I froze, listening to the quiet museum. Then, a noise. Something big was coming, and fast. Thump. Thump. Thump. Something was running towards us. “Quick!” I grabbed Drews wrist and ran into the girls bathroom. He didn’t protest. Together, we ran into a stall and locked the door. We climbed up on top of the toilet, staying as quiet as possible. I could hear Drew’s fast, scared breaths as the thing came closer and closer. Everything went absolutely silent. We froze and waited. One second. Two seconds. Three seconds. Four. Then, suddenly, the stall door broke down. I screamed in terror and Drew put his arms around me. A loud roar filled the bathroom. I dared to open my eyes. What I saw terrified me. In Front of me, right there, was the saber tooth tiger skeleton from the museum display. Suddenly, Drew grabbed a roll of toilet paper and threw it at the saber tooth. It growled and backed away for a moment. Drew grabbed my wrist and ran out of the bathroom, dragging me with him. “Where are we going?” I shouted through the roars of the saber tooth, who was crashing its way out of the bathroom... !!!CONTINUED IN NOTES AND CREDITS!!!
“To the ancient Rome section!” he replied, shouting back. I was confused, still being dragged alongside him. “Why?” I screamed loudly. I looked back. The saber tooth was closing in on us. Drew looked at me. There was fear in his eyes, but also determination and strength. “Because they have swords from back then in that section!” I gasped. He was a genius! We ran faster. He was no longer holding my wrist, he was holding my hand. We locked fingers and ran for our lives. Literally. Our steps matched each other as we ran. When we reached the Rome section, we both grabbed a sword and faced the creature. Suddenly, the saber tooth stopped. It turned to look at something. I looked too. There, standing in the hallway, was a statue of a demon from ancient Greek mythology. I recognised it immediately. It was the statue of Kronos! It lunged at Drew. He shrieked and fell to the ground. It strangled him to the ground, holding something in its hand. “No!” I screamed. Kronos had put something around Drew’s neck, like a collar or something. Then, Kronos’s statue exploded into a million pieces. I shrieked and leapt backwards. I looked at the saber tooth, but it wasn’t there. It had disappeared. How did it do that? Where was it? We both froze. Then, suddenly, Drew spoke. But his voice was different. Deeper, even a little angerier. “Get out while you can,” he half growled. Then he spoke again, his voice back to normal. “He’s-he’s taking over. Help!” I stopped, confused. He was tugging at the collar around his neck. “What do you mean?” I screamed. I could still hear the saber tooth growling, as though it was just invisible, but still there. Drew spoke in the deep voice again. “Get her.” The saber tooth came out of nowhere. It launched at me and threw me to the ground. I struggled under its weight. Drew’s eyes turned panicked and he tugged even harder at the collar. It was hurting him! His knuckles were turning white and he was struggling to try and rip the collar off. He spoke in his normal voice again, but this time it was panicking. “I… can’t… stop it…” he collapsed to the ground. The saber tooth growled quietly, still trapping me to the ground. Then Drew stood up. His eyes were red, like glowing red, and wild with what looked like anger. Something had happened to him. And he was trying to hurt me. Had Kronos managed to take over him and make him evil? There was no way. It was only a statue. Or was it, I thought, looking him directly in his eyes. “It’s too late now, Sophie. There’s no point. He pointed at me and the saber tooth stepped back, still growling. Then, everything went dark. THE END
