I stare at my empty project on Scratch. What in the world do I write? I could write fantasy, but I have to think of all the goblins and elfs and mermaids and other magical characters and that hurts my brain a lot. I could write nonfiction, but I have to see all the articles and texts and facts and that will tire me out. I could write realistic fiction, but I have NO FUDGING IDEA what it will be about. Then it hit me - what if I write an autobiography? I could tell readers about my life: the events, the suprises, the drama, written by the one and only me! Then it hit me again - I'm too young; Nothing good has happened in my life. "What the fudge do you mean, Sarah?" My mother asked. "Plenty of things happened in your life. You went to visit your aunt, you made a big speech about the Civil War, your birthday 2 weeks ago-" "I GET IT! But nothing awesome, is what I mean." My mom smiled. "I know for a fact that you're awesome." She kissed me on the cheek. "Now get to bed." UGH. My mom didn't even give me any good ideas. all she gave me was flattery! For the rest if the night, I thought as hard as I could to end my writer's block. Eventually, I drifted off into my very, VERY weird dream. I dreamt of being a superhero: Saving the world from bad guys, all that stuff. But I had a sidekick named Lorrie. She helped me through anything, whether it was something small like helping a cat that got stuck on a tree or something big like saving people from a fire. Before I even knew it, I woke up and it was morning with a blue and sunny sky. I stretched. But then I realized someone else was in the room. She had a green cape and bodysuit that both had a red "L" nice and big on it. She also had brown hair in a bun and was a little taller than me. She smiled and said, "Hey, boss." She was holding bags, they were two large duffle bags, i asked “what are those for?” she said “you dont remember? You must have been out cold” she then proceeded to talk to me about this heist that we planned! Then i asked “so why are we doing this?” When i asked that, she got mad and said “why are you asking these questions?!” She swung at me with her fist, i tried to block it but she started chasing me down a long hallway in my house ÿour are never gonna get away from me!”she said “i just want you to leave me alone!” I yelled, i saw a room at the end of the hallway i ran inside but she kept pounding on the door “let me in” “let me in”her voice grew louder. I couldn’t let her in. No, I couldn’t. But she was getting more persistent, more dangerous, all by the second. Panic seized me and I gasped for air, grabbing hold of something, anything. And just my luck, there were absolutely no windows in this damn room. Great. Now is not the time to be sarcastic, Sarah, I scolded myself silently. Oh, gosh. Why couldn’t I think of something to prevent that girl from breaking in? Because I was stupid. “Don’t you want to have some fun?” the girl sing-songed from outside the door. “Just let me in.” And then bits of wood slammed down on me as the door was broken down, and the girl appeared in the doorway. Oh my god. She was going to kill me. And then her expression changed, from hard, cold fury to something that looked like confusion, fear. “Who the hell are you?” she demanded, approaching me. “I could ask the same question,” I responded with just the same amount of sass that she had asked her question, “considering that you just randomly appeared in my bedroom while I was sleeping, and then proceeded to chase after me when I didn’t do what you wanted me to do.” Her eyes widened slightly. “Oh…” Her voice had an ominous, almost guilty note to it. I raised an eyebrow. “What?” Suspicion radiated off of me in nervous waves. “I…” She took a deep breath to steady herself. “I’m sorry. I’ll explain everything later.” “Well, care to tell me your name?” I asked. The stranger bit her lip. “You can call me Mercury.” Immediately, her tone had taken on a brisk, authoritative manner and she waved her hand as if her name wasn’t at all a big deal. “An alias?” I guessed. A secret name, I thought. What was she trying to hide? “That’ll be up to you.” Her silver gaze landed on me as she shrugged off her emerald-green cape. “Listen, Sarah.” “Uh, yeah,” I replied dryly. “I have ears for a reason, you know.” Mercury rolled her eyes, but I noticed that her lips twitched with the beginnings of a smirk. “Most of you don’t.” “Most of us?” The hell was that supposed to mean? “Yes, most of you. Others like you… they are called the children of Orcinus.” I snorted. “And who is Orcinus?” “You think I would know?” she answered bitingly. “My task was simply to be sent here to fetch you.” Her eyes dropped to the floor. Silence for a few seconds, until Mercury cleared her throat. “But I suppose I went a bit… astray.” “Yeah, and you promised me to ‘explain’ everything later.” “Indeed, I did say that.” “So?” I prompted her, tapping my foot expectantly. “So I have an ability. And sometimes, it’s not controllable. It makes others scared, makes them not want to interact with me. And when my ability takes over me, it can last for many, many hours. It’s dangerous,” Mercury responded, her gaze shifting, her voice far too calm. “Happy now?” Her silvery stare locked with my eyes. I got a feeling she didn’t want to talk any more of this. I quickly switched the topic. “What did you fetch me for?” Her face changed into an almost smug, mischievous smirk. “Oh, you’ll see, Sarah. And when I say that, you know you will.” TO BE CONTINUED…
