TRANSCRIPT: Hi! I'm Dex or May- either name is fine. I use he/any pronouns. I'm currently 16 and I spend a lot of time with art and music. I've been part of the hive since May 2024, so just over a year. Our time zone is MDT. - Why would I be a good manager? 1) I'm good at solving problems. I think things through very thoroughly and I don't jump to conclusions. Despite this, I don't always make the right decisions. But being able to see all sides of a situation can at least help others to solve problems effectively. 2) I don't cause problems much. I don't always openly share my opinion about contentious issues in order to not cause arguments. I do my best to quell conflicts, or at the very least not make them worse. - Why would I not be a good manager? 1) Talking to people is hard. It's difficult for me to understand tone and sometimes it's hard to tell if people are joking or not. I have trouble putting thoughts into words sometimes. Asking people for help is difficult as well. But I've been getting better at this recently. 2) Confrontation is hard. Oftentimes I avoid problems instead of directly facing them or asking for help. - Unique things I would bring to the position I don't know. There isn't much that I could provide. I could give riddles and help with homework, but I don't know how useful that would be. - What I would improve about the Gaehive I would try to solve the problems with rule-breaking with more immediate consequences. People break the rules so often and the only immediate change is to the karma, which people don't care much about because it only contributes to long-term rewards and punishments. Perhaps more frequent five- or ten-minute time-outs? For example, if a rule is broken five times in a short amount of time, then the hive takes a break for a few minutes with a comment closure. I do not enjoy comment closures, but it is possible that short breaks could become more and more infrequent as time goes on because actions get more immediate consequences and people would eventually learn. I hope. - My perception of manager responsibility Managers have to enforce rules, watch the hive, fix problems, spread information, understand what does and does not work to keep things running, deescalate conflicts, communicate effectively with other managers and curators, and listen to suggestions from other managers and curators, all while being criticized by thousands of kids. No matter what managers do, someone is going to be angry, which puts managers under more pressure to make all the right decisions all of the time. - Recommendations . He's very friendly with people and is good at responding to people and helping people out. Just today it helped me with my application. . He is always so kind to other people. It always has positivity to offer others. END TRANSCRIPT
