Sun Shadows Chapter 16 Shadowscar, Duskcloud and Dreampaw just stood there, staring at the three spirits with comically stunned looks on their faces. The spirits were standing very still, basking in the heavenly light. Duskcloud broke the awkward silence. "Ookay. Either this is a real dream from Starclan or I just ate one too many mice tonight." She turned to Dreampaw, "What the h3ll is going on?" Dreampaw shrugged, "Don't look at me. I'm dead." Shadowscar rolled her eyes and spoke to the spirits, "Soooooo hi? What are you doing here? This is the DARK FOREST. Not Starclan." The winged fiery spirit cleared her throat. "I am Infernowing, the spirit of fire. My friends here are Tsunamitail, the spirit of water-" She gestured towards the fish-tailed cat who smiled and waved. "And Tempestnose, the spirit of air." The cat with dark curly fur covering their eyes nodded in acknowledgement. "Wait a minute, aren't you the spirits of the clan territories in the legends?" Dreampaw interrupted, "Aren't there supposed to be four of you?" Tempestnose nodded, "There WERE four of us, but the spirit of nature, Junglefern has been missing for the past two moons. We've also heard of...others going missing, but Junglefern is the most important." "If the stories are right, then you should have amazing powers . Why can't you just teleport Junglefern back?" Shadowscar asked. Tsunamitail sighed, "Problem is, we're in a weaker spirit form right now. Our powers in the myths came from aligning ourselves with feline hosts. Their physical bodies allowed magic to be channelled through them. Also, we can't exactly do whatever we want here. The Dark Forest is Darkness's land. It is dangerous here." Infernowing cut Tsunamitail off, "BUT there is still hope. We have been searching for hosts for a while now and we think you three are the best choices." Dreampaw blinked in a confused way. "But-I'm dead, remember?" "The dead can be brought back for a limited time." Tempestnose said, "We can give you a physical body made from the magic of Starclan, but it will be particularly weak to water and fire." Dreampaw bowed, "Thank you, great spirits." Duskcloud finally broke her lengthy silence. "Sooo who am I getting? I'm assuming that Dreampaw gets Tempestnose since his new physical body can't manage fire or water." Tsunamitail stepped forward. "I would be pleased to help you. Water is welcoming to change and I'm sure we will suit each other quite well. Come now. Let us begin the hosting ceramony." Tsunamitail and Tempestnose linked paws and began chanting in a strange rough otherwordly language. Their voices rose to piercing shrieks and both of them plus Duskcloud and Dreampaw vanished. Infernowing apporached Shadowscar tentatively. "I hope you will understand that agreeing to help us will put you in more danger than before." Shadowscar nodded. "Anything to protect Riverclan." she said. Infernowing smiled. "Then let it begin." Then, she dissolved into tendrils of fire which rushed into Shadowscar's chest and warmed her heart. Infernowing's calm voice echoed in Shadowscar's skull. "Beware though. For cats who are from the Dark Forest can do this too." Then, Shadowscar jerked awake in her nest, Duskcloud's warm body pressing against hers. (WHOO that was long.)
