Previous chapter: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1156308454 I am back! With more filler! (only half of it's filler, don't worry). anyways this is another 2 chapter part meaning i'm leaving you on another cliffhanger (I know we just had like two in a row but scratch only lets me fit but so much in one project). also I know things are gonna seem kinda boring right now, especially with the next few chapters. but that's because we are only a few chapters away from some major stuff happening, and there's going to be a lot happening at once. so just hang in there for these next couple of chapters while i flesh out some characters and i promise you will be rewarded. anyways enjoy! Story: The next day Fletcher was just as cold to him as before, if not worse. Ember wanted to know where he went wrong here. But he knew asking Fletcher would just lead to more dead ends. Orpheus had responded to Ember’s email asking if he was sure he wanted to do this. To which after a lot of hesitation, he responded saying yes. Although what Orpheus brought up next surprised him. ‘Ok well then you should probably meet the rest of the members then, in a couple nights we will be holding a meeting for the AOS will that work for you?’. Ember was almost left speechless. Confused almost. It took him a second to type a response. ‘How would I get there?’. ‘We can pick you up’ Orpheus responded. They then agreed on a time and place to meet up and left it at that. A few days passed in a blink for Ember. And once again he found himself at his job. The only difference was this time he was working the morning shift, it wasn’t very rare he would be working the morning shift, but it wasn’t common either. Ember preferred the closing shift, but the coworker who was supposed to do the morning shift called saying he would have to take the closing shift, leaving Ember with the morning shift. About halfway through his shift his boss pulled him aside to talk. Ember’s boss was nice enough, although they didn’t have a real bond Fable still looked out for Ember, in the way a boss would look out for their workers. Fable took Ember to his office on the second floor which just wrapped around the walls. The library may have been smaller than an average one, but it still made room. When they walked in Fable gestured at the chair on the other side of his desk for Ember to sit in. “Did I do something wrong?” Ember asked after sitting down. It was always hard to tell with the strait face Fable put on. Fable smiled at Ember. “No, quite the opposite actually”. He said. Fable’s black hair was short, his eyes were chocolate brown, he wore golden earrings and a few gold rings, the gold paired nicely with the white dress shirt he used for work and his black pants attached to black suspenders. “Ember, I’m a little worried for you” Fable said his smile dropping a little. Ember stiffened, “What do you mean? Why?” he asked. Fable sighed. “Well, I’m sure you’ve heard about the Ashes of Society getting a little more restless in the fall months” he said. It was true the AOS typically attacked more in the fall and spring months than in the winter or summer months (not to say they didn’t, it just isn’t as frequent) Fable continued “And with them getting a new member recently makes things a little more on edge, I’m worried about you accidentally stumbling into something with them”. Well it was a little to late for that concern now. “And I especially don’t like you walking home at night by yourself”. Fable stopped for a moment. “I want to make sure your safe”. Ember paused. “Well what did you have in mind?” Ember asked. Fable got up from the desk. “I want someone to go with you when your leaving at night, somebody you know you can trust” he said. Ember breathed, not sure how to respond. “Now, this isn’t because I don’t trust you. I want to look out for your safety. Ember was a little upset but he knew Fable was doing what he thought was best. “Who?” Ember asked quietly. “Well I could take you, if you can’t think of anyone else, I’m sure your roommate wouldn’t mind” Fable answered. Ember knew his roommate would not be an option in their current state. But who else- “Well there is one person who might do it” Ember said. “He’s a friend of mind”. Fable sat back down. “Wilbur Mynd?” he said for confirmation. “Yeah, how do you-” “I know his father, Axel, we were great friends in the day”. Fable said interrupting Ember. Ember nodded. He knew Wilbur wouldn’t have a problem with it. Fable knocked his fist on the desk a couple times before standing up. “well that’s all I have for you” he said. Ember nodded and stood up. Fable opened the door for Ember. “If you need anything I’m right here” He said. Ember nodded before walking out.
(Cont.) O O O Ember told Wilbur about the arrangement and of course Wilbur agreed. Since Ember still had the rest of the day to burn out until he met Orpheus, him and Wilbur decided to just hang out. It wasn’t until Ember checked the time that he realized that he only had 30 minutes before he was supposed to meet Orpheus. Wilbur also had places to be by that time, so he dropped Ember off at his apartment. Ember waited for Wilbur to leave. By now it was already dark outside most people were already of the streets beside a few people who probably weren’t going to the southeast part of the city. That was where most of the suburbs were. And the lord knows they don’t go out late, well unless they are like Ember’s father. It was a 20-minute walk from Ember’s apartment to his father’s house. When he got there and couldn’t see Orpheus he just waited. He was 5 minutes early after all. He could’ve only waited two minutes but the prickling in his stomach made it feel like years. There was a little ticking in his head keeping each second but not telling him the time. Tick, tick, tick the clock went. Waiting, just waiting. “Sorry for my late arrival, I got very busy” Orpheus said stepping out of a black SUV that had just pulled up in his over dramatic bow. Ember broke out of his trance and rolled his eyes “this your car”? he asked. Orpheus turned to look at the car. “oh that, it’s just a rental, it helps keep the police of our tails” he said. “Right……” Ember nodded disbelief seeping through his words. Orpheus shifted uncomfortably, “Well, we should get going, we don’t want to keep the others waiting” he said before opening the door and gesturing for Ember to get in. Ember got in the car to see both Atlas and Prometheus there as well. “When you said you were coming to pick me up, I think you failed to mention you were bringing everyone with you”. Ember said sitting down. Both Atlas and Prometheus were sitting in the two front seats. Orpheus pressed his lips together as he got in. “That one was my fault” he said as he sat next to Ember “Sorry”. Ember shook his head and rolled his eyes before leaning on the arm of the door, his face pressed against the window. Ember could care less that Orpheus was sitting be side him. Ember hadn’t completely forgiven Orpheus but he could tolerate him, after all he only agreed to this because of what Orpheus told him. “Can you not put your mouth on the window of the rental, please” Prometheus said to Atlas starting the car and beginning to drive. Atlas, who had her mouth close to the window perked up and looked at her father “I’m not” she said. “I didn’t say you were, I just told you not to” Prometheus said. Their was another moment of silence. “So, you do these meetings often?” Ember asked. No one had ever heard of the AOS holding any kind of meeting. “Yep, every week” Atlas said. “Thank you, Ember for doing this” Prometheus said looking at him in the rearview mirror. Ember felt a little flushed out of embarrassment, he didn’t ever feel embarrassed with praise but the way Prometheus gave it out made him feel a little warm. “Right, I’m glad I can help” he said. “So, Ember how has it been with you”. Orpheus asked awkwardly in an attempt to start a conversation. “It’s been fine I guess” Ember said noticing they were leaving the neighborhood. “Orpheus” Prometheus said as if he was reminding him. Orpheus sighed “Ember your going to have to wear this” he said pulling out a blindfold. If you could call it that, all it really was, was a piece of fabric folded up one way to make it thicker while being long enough to tie it around his head. The pattern was yellow roses. “It’s not my favorite idea, it’s just…-“. “We need to be careful” Prometheus said interrupting Orpheus. “It’s not necessarily because we don’t trust you, we just think it would be safer for you if you didn’t know where we met”. Ember felt like that wasn’t the whole truth, and he didn’t trust it either. They could do anything with Ember blindfolded and he would be none the wiser. The thought almost crushed him completely, but he wasn’t going to show that, he didn’t to his father, and he wasn’t going to for these villains. Ember nodded. “Ok, I understand” he said turning the back of his head to Orpheus. “Sorry” Orpheus whispered before everything for Ember went black. NOTES: yep we'll be meeting the AOS next time! next chapter will pick up where we left off, the 2 chapters after that are filler to flesh out characters. then the interesting will happen in the two chapters after that so just hang in there I also recently got asked if there would be any romance in this story. I'm not going to spoil anything, but I am thinking of making a quick spinoff for pride month!
