SOULBORNE DEMO -------------------------------------------------- Update 0.1.12 Buffed: Chick, Living tree, Golem, and Archer. Nerfed: Paladin and Knight. Despite the name, this is not a souls-like, but a turn-based RPG inspired by games such as EarthBound. Made mainly in the Vector style. Everything below this line contains spoilers for the game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Press these buttons to attack enemies or recover yourself. BLOCK - gives MP and DE for 1 turn ATTACK - deals damage to the enemy, later stuns and crits HEAL - gives HP for a cost of MP. Later cures effects MAGIC - fire magic for MP. later penetrates enemy DE. may miss. The more you use these four actions, the higher rank they become. The higher the rank, the more useful they become to you. Additionally, there are two buttons above these options. HOUSE icon takes you to the menu. That's where the settings and other niche things can be found. ARROW icon skips your turn. Useful against shielding enemies or Wisps. These two icons DO NOT rank up. It'd be funny though. An Explanation of mechanics and terms ------------------- What stuff like 'DE' or 'MP' means. HP - Your health. Represented as green when full, yellow when slightly damaged, and red when low. You die when it hits zero. DMG - The amount of HP that is reduced by an attack. MP - Your mana. Represented as a light blue. Actions such as health need this to be used. Enemies can steal this for their own actions. XP - How close you are to leveling up. It goes back to zero when you do. Needed XP - The amount you need to level up. DE - Your defense. This number subtracts the damage from physical attacks that are dealt to you. Magic and charged attacks penetrate this number. Start DE - The amount of DE you start with each battle. Can be increased via leveling up. Enemies have their own HP, MP, DE, and Start DE for their own use. Use their stats to strategize on how to take them down. When you get hit, your health points (HP) do not immediately decrease. Inspired by EarthBound, your HP goes down over time. If you react fast enough, you can save yourself from fatal wounds inflicted upon you. Sometimes enemies may use a special action that gives you an effect, such as a fireball making you burn. The list below shows and explains all the effects that can be inflicted on you. RED FIRE - The standard fire that deals a small amount of damage each turn. The alternative, Blue Fire, is not used in this version, although found in the code. BLINDNESS - The screen becomes covered in a thick fog, and your actions are too hazy to see. Occasionally, they will all move. Keeping track of them is key. You can also see them when you get hit. ICE - When you are frozen, you can't use actions. Usually lasts for 2 turns. Can be prevented by blocking. NIGHTMARE - The screen is covered in red moving patterns. Although it seems pointless at first, if you don't move in time, you will become scared and your turn will be skipped. Act fast. BARRIER - Usually cast by intelligent enemies, it completely prevents the use of attack magic in the area. Ranking up attack beforehand to counter this is a safe bet for anyone encountering this. THUNDER - A chance to skip your turn. It's like a weaker ice. Current limitations ------------------------------------------------ The things you cannot go past. May be changed in the full version or kept as a whole. MAX LEVEL: 10 MAX HP: 99 MAX MP: 99 MAX XP: 999 MAX Needed XP: 999 MAX DE: 30 MIN DE: -9 MAX Start DE: 5 MAX action ranks: 5 MAX DMG: None (Though never does more than HP)
This is unfinished. Things are VERY subject to change. This is also only a demo of the combat system. Other aspects of the game have been stripped to simplify the somewhat bigger size of the game. DEMO CREDITS ------------------------------------------------- Graywastaken - Main Developer @glitched_meep - Main Playtester and Conceptualist @Tmage4444 - Major Playtester im too lazy to credit the people who made the music so nyah!! Though in all seriousness, the full game will have its own soundtrack made by myself. Songs used here may be copyrighted, although I mainly used popular game music, such as Super Mario Odyssey, or EarthBound.
