Abigal McGonagall The door swung open at once. Then Professor Black-Malfoy came in. She had a very stern face ‘The firs’-years, Professor Black-Malfoy,’ said Hagrid. ‘Thank you, Hagrid. I will take them from here.’ She pulled the door wide. The Entrance Hall was so big you could have fitted the whole of England in it. The stone walls were lit with flaming torches like the ones at Gringotts, the ceiling was too high to make out, and a magnificent marble staircase facing them led to the upper floors. "Home" Abigal muttered They followed Professor Black-Malfoy across the flagged stone floor. Abigail could hear the drone of hundreds of student voices from a doorway to the right, but Professor McGonagall showed the first-years into a small empty chamber off the hall. They crowded in, standing rather closer together than they would usually have done, peering about nervously. ‘Welcome to Hogwarts,’ said Professor Black-Malfoy. ‘The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory and spend free time in your house common room. ‘The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule-breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honour. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours. ‘The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting.’ ‘I shall return when we are ready for you,’ said Professor McGonagall. ‘Please wait quietly.’ Abigail saw that the same girl with blonde, whitish hairwas talking to the boy with dirty blonde hair, who must be her brother, Abigail thought ‘Move along now,’ said a sharp voice. ‘The Sorting Ceremony’s about to start.’ Professor Black-Malfoy had returned. One by one, the ghosts floated away through the opposite wall. ‘Now, form a line,’ Professor Black-Malfoy told the first-years, ‘and follow me.’ They followed Professor Black-Malfoy as soon as they followed, they all saw the sorting hat, then the same girl muttered something to the same boy Oh, you may think I’m just a hat, A dusty, patchy, talking prat, But place me on your clever head, And I’ll reveal the path you’ll tread. I've sorted minds both bold and bright, In candle’s glow and darkest night. Now listen close and don’t you fret, Your destiny’s not written yet… Gryffindor, where hearts are bold, With nerves of steel and spirits gold. They charge ahead and face the flame, For honor, truth, and glory’s name. Hufflepuff is kind and true, They’ll always stand by kin and crew. Hard-working souls, both fair and just, In loyal hands, place all your trust. Ravenclaw, with minds so keen, Where wit and wisdom rule the scene. They seek the stars and chase the lore, Unlocking secrets, evermore. Slytherin, with cunning grace, They strive to win, they love the race. Ambitious hearts with plans so grand, They’ll lead you far with guiding hand. So don’t be shy, come take a seat, And let me judge whom you shall meet. A house that fits, I’ll find for you— The Sorting Hat knows what is true! ‘When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be sorted,’ she said. ‘Potter, Albus!’ 'Harry Potter's kid,' Abigail thought ‘SLYTHERIN!’ shouted the hat. 'SLYTHERIN', Abigail thought being as confused as possible ‘Malfoy, Scorpius!’ ‘SLYTHERIN!’ shouted the hat. ‘Granger-Weasley, Rose!’ ‘GRYFINDOR!’ shouted the hat. ‘McGonagall, Abigail!’ ‘GRYFFINDOR!’ shouted the hat. Abigail happily ran to the table ‘Lovegood-Scammander, Lorcan!’ ‘RAVENCLAW!’ shouted the hat. ‘Lovegood-Scammander, Lystander!’ ‘HUFFLEPUFF!’ shouted the hat. ‘Pullman, Natalie!’ ‘SLYTHERIN!’ shouted the hat. Abigail strangely noticed that all the teachers and the Lovegood twins were wide-eyed Professor Black-Malfoy rolled up her scroll and took the Sorting Hat away.
