in another world, a better world, James is happy. look at this beautiful tragedy of a boy whom I love so much. he never fails to make me want to cry. he was meant to have siblings, you know. six years after him, two twins. Victor and Lenore, Leo for short. two twins who would have the best older brother in the world. if things had gone right. he meets his parents’ ghosts eventually. the uncorrupted, pure spirits of his parents at one point. the last thing they tell him before vanishing is “we love you.” that’s the only time James lets himself cry. and then there’s this quote. that never fails to make me want to cry. from James’ parents to their son, one quote from his parents that breaks me: “we were so excited to see your first steps, hear your first words, celebrate your first birthday. we were so excited to be a family. we were so excited to see you smile, listen to your laugh, hold your hand, lift you up, hold you close. we couldn’t wait to love you.” he looks like his father, you know. kind eyes, sharp features but soft edges, brimming with light and warmth. he has his mother’s hair. walnut colored and thick, although he got his waves from his father. he has his mother’s height and lean build, the same presence that captivates a room. his smile, though, his smile is different. his smile is all him, bright and sunshine and god, he’s just so loving and you just can’t help but smile back because he’s just that kind of person. “in another world, a better world, James is happy. in another world, he roams around freely but always returns home. In another world he is laughter and smiles and sunshine and fresh coffee on a Monday afternoon, weathered cobblestone streets, travel and ink and a big family and love and life and life and love and laughter and joy and love and life again.”
