( https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1183176536/ ) ⊘⊘⊘ what is swc? ⚠ swc stands for scratch writing camp, which is run in july, november, and march. participants work to write a set amount of words by the end of the month, completing fun activities, prompts, and challenges. if you’ve been writing seriously for years, pursue writing as a casual pastime, or want to improve your writing skills, swc is a perfect place to do so! ⊘⊘⊘ why should I join swc? ⚠ swc has tons of different prompts and activities! these include: ☣ daily writing prompts ☣ weekly projects to work through, exploring different writing skills and themes ☣ word wars, which are short writing sprints ☣ competitive swc-wide events called cabin wars ☣ the critiquitaire, where you can get feedback on writing pieces ☣ the writing competition & memory book cover competition ☣ themed storyline activities depending on your cabin ☣ access to writing workshops, as well as past prompts and workshops that you can explore! ⚠ swc is such a great community <3 being part of swc has allowed me to meet people from around the world I otherwise wouldn’t have met! it’s incredibly welcoming and an unforgettable experience, facilitated by swc’s amazing hosting team, as well as all the leaders and co-leaders and campers who help make the session possible ⚠ there are lots of amazing cabins! there are lots of different cabins to choose from, all with a wide variety of atmospheres to choose from! the name of your cabin doesn’t mean you have to write in that genre--you can write a fantasy story if you’re in mystery, for example! cabins often have matching pfps, banners, signatures, and other fun in-cabin activities aligned with incredible storylines another great part of swc is that if you’d prefer a noncompetitive cabin, you can always join the cabin that will not win, or tctwnw! it’s more focused on individual projects, without the rankings and leaderboard, and is a great way to focus on your personal progress over the course of the month <3 ⚠ it improves your writing skills and creativity! swc has taught me valuable writing skills--not only have I improved my creative writing, but it’s also applicable to writing during the school day! I’ve learned skills I can apply to writing essays, and even for in-class essays during school, swc has allowed me to write more coherently and confidently during a short period of time.
