Reshared: original shared on oct 10 2024 on @-waterball- i need to step up my game. so, if you don't know what TAG is, it's a big animating elimination competition that's been going for a while, and is currently hosted by @Untitled_TV (go check out his stuff it's amazing) i entered TAG X with a project called "riding a bicycle" that i made in about two weeks and didn't think was very good, but got 15th overall and even got featured. however, my first round entry was a twelve minute animation that took me three months of intense work to make and this project barely made it into the contest (it was the last project that made it in) now we're onto round two, and i've had big ideas for a bigger story and plot but if i get eliminated this round that's just gonna be a lot going down the drain. so, if i'm gonna stay in the contest as long as i can i'll need to lock in based mostly on judge feedback, my animation didn't do super well because of the pacing, for the most part. it was twelve minutes long but it could've been shortened to about five or six, and what i've figured out is that most of the reason for the pacing was the way i did the dialogue. basically, it didn't use any sounds at all, just subtitles at the bottom of the screen. and these were hard to see, they had to be kept on the screen long enough to read, everything about them was just bad that's one problem i'm going to have to fix in the next animation, but that's not all. another one of the judges said that the limb movement was the main problem (and personally i get that but also don't really see that because that's the main thing i had practiced and the first thing i really learned how to do in animation), though it is pretty hard to do on scratch because of the way the vector shapes work. so that's some stuff i'm really gonna have to fix in the next animation. list of things to improve: - shorter music (full minecraft tracks are a bit too long and mess up pacing, even if it is an amazing soundtrack) - voice acting (maybe subtitles as well, though i dont want to overwork myself) - minor character redesign so that it's easier to animate (i've been meaning to do this for a while as well) - better limb movement - more cuts, less scenes (just shaving off extra time) - more consistent work schedule (to make sure i don't waste time and that i can get a lot more work done) i also intend to highlight the best parts of my animation as much as i can, because my 3d-type perspective stuff was effective as well as lipsync so yeah, i really need to start grinding on this, especially since i only get a month and a half to make this so... better get to work alr it's 5 pm goodnight -- music is concrete halls by c418
