This song is published by me! This song was inspired partly by lyrics of “ Sympathy for the devil” by The Rolling Stones and “ Holland, 1945”, by neutral milk hotel. I wanted to base this song off a particular date in history, and I chose the Russian revolution as it portrays how a government or just an ideal can kill so many lives. Everything just kinda clicked from there and I wanted to tell a story about the lives lost in war. I really hope you like it as I am very proud of this song.
They marched into the castle and took their lives, Dead bodies lay on a dark night, The good guys dump their bones without thinking of a grave, Where their countries men lay for killing the other side, The villains are gone, but it’s still an awful way to survive. And I bet the moon weeped and the sun swirled, Its tears that the stars caught when they twirled, They could only watch when his daughters cried and his sons died, While he works just to keep himself alive, Maybe in another world, this will all be considered a crime, Maybe in another world, the children will be able to sleep soundly, Without worrying about the somber shot of the gun, Carried by someone 2 years older than them, Under the wing of a man who only used it once, Under the wing of a world where innocent eyes are pecked with flies. 1917, only a year until we’re free, He’s released from his duty but he’ll always be fighting, He’s released from his duty but he’s horrified by the sound of lighting, He survived but the life inside of him died, As the nights remind him of the bones that comforted him during that dark time, And the ants chew on something that’s not even alive, But they need it to give themselves some kind of light, And he stomped and crushed them and cried, Not even things that fly could escape the hands that kept the world up at night. And the story that sent shivers down his spine reached into someone else’s life, And she’s erased her name because of the symbol on her neck, Bunkered down while her brother suffers, But he’ll always be the one who was more clever, He’s free from pain and her heart breaks every day, She wishes she could’ve taken his place. And the world spins as bomb drops, And politicians give another speech, 1917, he thinks he’s better off a leech, They’re lucky for walking on the ground without thinking twice, They’re lucky because they’ll never know what it’s like, To see another man’s life fade away in their eyes, As the flies get something to eat while she begs for a crumb, And the young soldier beats his drum, It’s the life he’s dreamed because it’s what he hears when he sleeps, “Someday, I want that to be me,” He spoke too soon, And the moon paints the sky, “With a color so sad, that only my tears give it light,” And they watch what was supposed to be a safe flight, Not even the stars are safe from a peaceful night, And they blame the moon from turning away, As the world turns and spins, they pray that no one gets hurt where they’re at, And they never knew exactly how many tears the moon cried, Because when you get a mansion you get a shack on the other side. And it’s so hard to understand, And it’s so hard for the horror and sin to make amends, Because in 20 years time, it’ll all restart again, And they sing their national anthem with such pride, Even though they know about all of the people that died, And the world twirls and spins and the stars dance once more, And she’s afraid of the man that’s knocking on her door, There’s demons in his mind that no medicine could cure. And there’s no super heroes anymore, Because the whole world's at war, Where graves lie and we never even got to know their names, Where people will look at a photograph and stare at a face, Of someone who watched life fade away from someone’s eyes, Of someone whose bones were almost destroyed by flies, But somewhere, They’ll be considered the villain on the other side.
