Welcome to North Carolina, home of a diverse population of different species, after years of urbanization. Here, we take a day of 600 seconds (10 minutes) to adventure the activity cycles of all the unique creatures found here. Native Mammals: •American Black Bear: A medium-sized omnivore that either scavenges, eats other animals, or consumes plant matter. •Big Brown Bat: A large micro-bat that is highly similar to the Eastern red bat, but being more social, adaptable, and plentiful among the terrain. •Carolina Bobcat: A medium-sized (Scratch) wildcat that can eat a variety of different animals. They are the only extant feline of North Carolina. •Common Raccoon: A medium-sized mammal related to caniforms. They inhabit habitats near bodies of water and adapt to the urban environment. •Eastern Cottontail: A medium-sized mammal that is a prolific species on the landscape. It bounds and hops, instead of running, but also rarely walks. •Eastern Gray Squirrel: A small mammal, although large for a rodent. They can adapt to a variety of different conditions, even around people. •Eastern Red Bat: A small bat species with an iconic red color. They are easy to identify, though not very common, and usually solitary. •North American Beaver: The largest rodent of North America. They eat wood and use it to build their own habitats. They are adapted swimmers, not walkers. •North American River Otter: A large otter species still well-adapted for terrestrial life, though is also semi-aquatic and a capable swimmer. •Red Wolf: A medium-large sized canis species that is exclusively native to the United States. It is critically endangered, only found here. •Tri-Colored Bat: A relatively small bat species that feasts on insects. It possesses three different colors in its body and fur. Fungus has depleted their population. •Virginia Opossum: A medium-sized marsupial that still thrives and survives today. It is the only remaining one in North America. •White-Tailed Deer: A large deer commonly found in North Carolina. It is quite established and widespread among the state.
