On March 27, 1977, KLM flight 4805, and PAN AM flight 1736 collided on the runway. Tenerife North Airport has 1 runway, and 4 taxiways (I think...) so planes had to taxi to one end of the runway and takeoff, instead of taking off from the taxiway after getting on the runway. Due to poor ATC instructions and extremely foggy weather, KLM was actively taking off, while PAN AM was still on the runway. PAN AM spotted KLM, and tried to take a runway exit off the runway, but did not get off in time. KLM tailstruck in an attempt to takeoff and crashed into PAN AM.
