Whether it’s by choice or bitter sarcastic nature, Hikaru is rarely welcoming to the people in his surroundings. He’s very deadpan and states things plainly, usually in a monotone or uninterested tone. He /does/ have feelings and he’s /not/ a robot — but his emotions are so suppressed that it’s hard to believe he’s anything but a blunt, overly serious figure. … Although, if you look a little closer, it doesn’t seem like he’s entirely aware of that. He tends to miss social cues and takes things very literally, meaning he can’t differentiate between jokes and facts. To make up for that, he plays it safe and takes /everything/ seriously. While he does have people’s best interests at heart — and he does /not/ want to hurt people — he’s too off-putting to be perceived as genuine. Which he tries to be. Very hard.
