The 3rd revamped playground variation. --FV4005's Testing Day-- In the early 1950s, the British Army embarked on testing the FV4005, an experimental tank destroyer built on the chassis of the Centurion Mk 3. Designed to carry the massive 183mm anti-tank gun, the FV4005 was intended to punch through the heaviest armored targets. However, the tank's sheer size and the power of the gun made it an unwieldy weapon, prone to problems with recoil and structural stress. During initial trials at Ridsdale Shooting range, the tank was put through rigorous tests on various terrains, with engineers struggling to refine the gun’s recoil mechanism and ensure the vehicle could handle the intense forces generated by its own weapon. Despite the impressive firepower, the FV4005’s development soon hit a roadblock. The vehicle’s design, which prioritized firepower over mobility and crew comfort, the FVRDE (Fighting Vehicle Research and Development Establishment) quickly revealed critical flaws in practical use. The massive gun, although capable of destroying enemy armor with a single shot, made the tank almost impossible to control and maintain in the field. The British Army ultimately abandoned the project in favor of more practical and versatile solutions, marking the FV4005 as an ambitious yet impractical chapter in the history of tank development.
